How to unlock the Driftin' Daddy-O achievement in Mafia II - Definitive Guide

This is not my video, but i figured i'd post it here as an alternative to get this achievement. I used a Smith Thunderbolt (upgraded once), and I got this with a small amount of effort. I'm terrible at drifting and this was the only spot I could get it at.

I used tha ascot bailey it seemed easier for me but i followed tha vid and great guide positive from me and thanks. @razorback86 yea thats true its better to use a stock car cuz tha supped up cars are to fast and yeah they tend to do 360 spins to much so yeah stock is better

I used your trick and I got the achievement on my 2nd try. I used a Shubert Frigate upgraded to level 2 (the one without the supercharger)

Thanks! I used the Smith Custom 200, & it wasn't that bad. Trial & error was all it took. Upvoted.

By far the best place to do this achievement. I got the achievement in 3 minutes of try. Great! clap

Great guide! I've successfully used this technique on both consoles (Xbox 360 and PS3), and this is by far the easiest location to get this achievement or trophy.

Follow the recommendations exactly, including the choice of car. Don't use a highly-tuned vehicle. Highly-tuned vehicles are faster and spin their tires easily, but they are also harder to control in a drift, because they have a tendency to do 360s, which kills the drift counter. Using a stock vehicle will allow you to more easily maintain the drift counter while simply turning left and right along a straight line in the park, as shown.

Please note that you MUST be in a mission to unlock this achievement! There will be a green ticking bonus timer clock in the top right of the screen. This is how you know you're in a mission and you'll be able to earn points while driving a vehicle to earn achievements.

The person in the video is playing the tutorial mission of the DLC. You get this mission after completing the Witness level of the DLC. After that you'll be in Union Train Station. Walk into the golden T marker and press cn_X to start the mission. Beat up the two guys in the street then the game will tell you to get into a marked car (the one used in the video). Get into it and then you can drive to central park and perform this drift trick in the grass.

If you go to your map(press select) and go to the upper-left hand corner, you will see an Empire Diner and a road leading down from it( it curves a little and is on the left side). To the left of this road are three gray "nubs" that kind of look like small fingers coming off the side. On the side of them closest to the Empire Diner, there is a large grassy area with trees on it. Drive here, and when you have speed built up, hold the emergency brake and tilt the left stick right and left quickly. This will take a few tries. You can also try to do it after not having much speed, like 20 mph and tilting the left stick side to side. You can also do this while trying to go in circles if you can't get it just going side to side. Remember that you have to be in a mission for the points to count.

Greast solution. Thumbs up. That spot worked far better then when I was trying down by the docks since you seem to have better control of the vehicle in the grass area compared to where I was trying before.

I dont see the point in making a new solution for it, but I just went to your location got to 30mph and then kept swerving from left to right in the car you get from the mission, I found that much better than going in circles. If you want test it for yourself and if you agree add it to your solution :D

Not a bad place to do it, but I just did it in that rather empty industrial area that you have to go through on the first mission.

Mostly struggled to get the right car, finally ended up in the Shubert Frigate.

Does the car have to be upgraded in any way for the swerving technique to work?

Nailed it in your location using the Ascot Bailey during the mission Highway Racing

Fully upgraded cars do ridiculous amounts of wheelspin at low speeds, might help to kick your cars back end out left and right. Also, the tires furthest to the left in the garage make the car more slidey.
Good solution though, cheers!

First of all, make sure you have at least one grenade in your armament.

Second, start a mission at the docks at the South of the map like 'Limo Movin'

Once the timer starts go out to the long docks car park where you will see a number of trucks. (Trucks dont require to be broken into. Speeds it up a little)

Hotwire and park at least four of these very close together.

Stand near to your car and throw a grenade at the parked trucks and you will see at least a 4x Demolition multiplier appear.

Hop quickly into your car and you will only need to do a 50-60 drift for the achievement to pop.

Worked first time for me, just do it before the multiplier runs out. You would likely have time for a second go by parking cars again if you don't manage first time.

I have found a similar way to do the 'Jacked Jumper' achievement which I will post too.

Hope this helps folks.

Holy crap, that totally worked! I was trying to get this in the park, when I figured id try this method. So I threw a grenade in the street, blew up a couple of cars, hopped in the car, did about 40drift pts. Worked like a charm!

THIS IS BY FAR THE EASIEST AND SAFEST WAY TO GET THIS ACHIEVEMENT. I GOT ALMOST 800 DRIFTING POINTS DOING THIS.

First, you have to be in a mission for this to count. Any mission will do.

Look at your map, way at the top, there is a stretch/straight away of road. It is slighty southwest of Bruski's scrapyard. Its shaped a like a square. In this square, top left corner is a gas station. Right corner is a body shop. The stretch of road you want is the bottom part of square. The road under the gun shop. Just check you map, its can't be missed. If you go here are nighttime (you can do it during the day too) but night time has less cars. If you want to speed up the clock just save at your apt. Just start at one end of the road and go like 20 or 30 mph. Then start drifting by pressing your left analog stick left and right. If you do this right, you will net yourself a lot drift points, I got like 788. The only thing is - DO NOT hit anything or your points will not count. I suggest once you get to 200, STOP DRIFTING!!!

Find a long stretch of wide road, such as the one that runs down the West side of Greenfield. Start weaving back and forth or use the handbrake to start the drift. Once the score starts adding up, weave back and forth to maintain the drift, the faster and further each weave goes, the more points you'll rack up. This is easier if you have a fast car with a supercharger and pump the gas to spin the tires going into the apex of each fishtail to bring the rear end around. Counter-steer out of the slide, and repeat in the opposite direction. You'll need to score 200 points before pulling out of the drift successfully to get the trophy. If you hit anything solid during the drift, you will lose the score and not obtain the trophy. Breakable objects such as benches or small lamp posts will not affect your drift unless hitting them causes you to slow down too much or stop entirely.

There is an even simpler way. We go to the park and drift on the grass)))

Here's a video

The method is even simpler than in the central park, we go to the docks as shown on the map and start drifting, there is a lot of straight long dream, the distance is wide between objects.
For drifting, you can take any fast car, and hold (don’t lift the tail too much) small wobbles)))

In fact, the trophy is very easy, it is done in the “Street Racing” mission. As the task begins, get into the indicated car, drive out and start swerving the car on this wide road, i.e. to the right and left only slightly.
