How to unlock the Millionaire achievement in Mafia II - Definitive Guide

I do not take credit for this video but this is an easy way to get the 1 million points achievement, it takes about 3 to 4 hours to do it, best time to do it would be at work or while you're sleeping. You can also get mileage using this method even tho its a little slow.

External image

This is the spot on the map. Credit goes to HeroedeLeyenda for finding this.

EDIT: You need to get 1,000,000 million points total in your city score. It is not a combination of mission scores so you must definitely get the full 1,000,000 million though your city score.

Edit #2: Seems the link to the spot on the map is no longer working. So I updated the Youtube video, credit goes to Josh Sheehan. I will leave original solution in place and update with a new link.

Out of the 2 solutions. this one was easier because I just threw the car through that window and then went to bed and work. when I came home from lunch 6 hours after I started it had amassed over 200 miles driven and 2 million points banked.

Great find, I will vote positive but please consider adding to the solution that this method requires your city score to reach 1 M. The city score cannot be added to the story score for the achievement. Well done!

I don't mind using a glitch once in a while, but using one on this achievement confuses me. You will get this after you done all the missions...

By DaShAg on 17 Feb 2011 11:35
DaShAg - this achievement will not necessarily unlock when you complete all the missions. You have to score 1,000,000 points across all the missions and that can be hard to do.

Well to back Dash up I'm 7 missions from finishing the game and I have 868k points from just blowing up cars at the end of missions. And I'm sure I've done it a lot faster than this solution.

PS I havent downvoted the solution, I just feel there's better/quicker/easier ways of going about it.

Glitch didn't work for me, drove through window and waited for number to pass 1,000,000 total combined and didn't pop, so i tried saving it by using subtitles save and didn't pop. I then loaded last checkpoint and it reverted to my old total.

Glitch worked eventually after I let my city score reach 1,000,000. I don't know if it was just my game wouldn't do it normally or they have tried patching it but if anyone's doesn't pop once u reach 1,000,000 combined points let your city score reach 1,000,000 and it should pop. Took mine just over 3 hrs to do.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but as Weener2468 said. The scores collected in this glitch will reset to what it what it originally was before you started the glitch, however if anyone is after the 1,000 miles achievement the distance travelled is NOT reset. So it's best to get this 1 mil points achievement in one sitting, which doesn't take that long give or take a few hours. And if you're after the mileage achievement, you don't have to worry about doing it in 1 sitting.

Oh and just to confirm, the glitch stills works as of 10 Oct '11.

Great discovery. Still working 1 July 2012.
You can also work on the 1,000 miles achievement together with this. Use a wired controller, get a fast car and rubber-band the RT button down to chalk up more miles. You'll get a message like you're running out of fuel but just ignore it, your car will keep accelerating.

I would suggest playing all missions first anyway. Doing it on hard i finished with 925,000 then just repeated Lost in Transit mission and gained another 200,000 just by shooting cars and increasing my multiplier. Play the game. As for the the drive 1000 miles now thats a different story.

As of 30 May 2013, this method still works. I doubt this will never be fixed by 2games since their has been no update to fix it.
I do recommend however is to get a super fast tuned up car and attach a rubber band to the Rt trigger in order to get the miles built up. See the explorer guide but remember to same the progress by changing the settings such as subtitles in order to save it.

Just got this. No need to save the game before the million city points are up. Just leave it running and the achievement pops when the City score hits 1,000,000. The save only comes into play before the 1,000 drive miles when you should save at 990 or so and drive the rest, which is what I am in the process of doing now. Stoked when I got this headspin

Glitch is still working as of 08/01/12. I suggest if you are going to complete this achievement that you have a wired controller. That way you can leave the game for hours without it stopping. With a wireless controller, you have to touch the controller every 10 minutes or else the game will just get paused.

Had around 2.600.000 points and the achievement when I woke up this morning dance. I started with 16 miles and had 323 miles after this nights session (roughly 300 miles in about 11 hours). I used a fully tuned Ascot Bailey. @ Marcus Pigeon: Points won wont save at all, only miles. You did sth wrong facepalm. You have to turn subtitles on or off in the menu depending on your inital setting and then the game saves. Then you have to reload last checkpoint via menu. If you want to be 100% sure, go to the nearest mission marker after this and accept the mission - game saves again then including your miles. wave

This isn't a walk in the park. I'd suggest playing on hard if you played the main game on hard, the only real difference I've noticed on this DLC versus the main game is the over abundance of cops, they are everywhere and are quick to spot you.

Playing on Easy you earn just the points per mission.
Playing on Medium will net you a 50% bonus on top of mission score.
Playing on Hard will net you 100% (double) mission score.

It's possible to 1,000,000 on all difficulties, but you'll really have to bring your AAA game to stand much of a chance for the casual/average player on Easy.

Tips for completing the millionaire:
String combos. That's the best way to do it. By headshots, killing, or blowing up cars (demolition bonus). Try your best to keep that bar and multiplier active (top right, next to the green mission clock.

The best advice I can give is this; load up on ammo before car missions, then after you've got the car at the destination DO NOT press X, but get out of the car and blow up the cars around you, stringing them together, you can net a very tidy bonus doing this, I've improved all of my scores using this method, and I'd suggest finishing off as many missions as you can by 'car demolition'. The cops will come, but they don't shot AT you until you either kill a civilian by explosion/shooting, or a cop, then it gets messy, but you can kill them anyway. They don't add to the multiplier though, so bare that in mind if you start going all cop killer :)

Leave yourself a safe 5 'minutes' on the green clock to get back into the car and hit X straight away.

The last 2-3 story missions should net you a tidy amount, in the region of 150-250,000+. I consider myself as an about average gamer, I played through on Hard and finished the game on 854,000. Just using the car multiplier method on the car jacking ones, I'm now just 21,000 short. So that really does make a massive difference, if you do that for story missions as you go, I'm sure you'll get the Millionaire achievement without this need of replaying missions.

The Lost in Transit mission is a gold mine for car destruction, but I'm just not good enough to not die/blow myself up. You can go off, do the initial bit then when you're at the safe point, don't press X on the silver house, go blow up cars trying to maintain your multiplier. There's a handful of players with well over 150,000 on that mission alone.

The Don seems to have high scores too. I was just pleased to finish them on hard at all, let alone attemptint anything 'fancy' to boost my score :)

Hope that helps, any further tips posted in comments, I'll add to this.

Edit: probably very late to this party, only just turned on email notifications, but here's a vital inclusion from MitoticActivity

"Good guide. I would suggest editing the last portion about the city score. If you have 1 million individually in either the story score or city score the achievement will pop. But the scores from story and city cannot be combined for the 1 M"

0
By dzauk on 12 Sep 2010 14:37
That's just your ranking for each mission. S being the best. I got a few C grades on Story missions, mostly As and a few Bs, but nearly all carnapping ones were S grade.

I came here to post a guide to find you did a much better job than I would've. Great tips, very good solution. That 100% bonus definitely makes a big difference, I got over a million without even trying (all my car theft scores suck), so I recommend playing on Hard to anyone who's trying for this.

Your method is great! it really helps add up the points. I would add this to your guide though: play through the DLC normally first, then replay levels using the car demolition method. That way you are sure to get a higher score than your previous attempt, and you know what score you need to reach. just a suggestion, great guide!

QuiCkz AleX. If you are trying to help, maybe you should be more elaborate. Your sarcastic attitude has nothing but the opposite effect.

What he's trying to say is, you can get this achievement either by getting 1m score across all missions OR by achieving 1m score in city score. The two do not add up, it's either or. Hope this helps.

good guide for people who want to get this cheevo legit.

yesterday i managed to get this on normal, even though my base score (after finishing the last mission) was around 550k points. it took me a while to run through most of the missions, but some of them were great for getting a lot of points.

Just another tip. I watched a video on youtube (here's a link... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbHdfm_S6VU ) for the mission "Lost In Transit" and was able to grab about 400,000. The video shows him getting a million.

Why don't you fix your solution if City Score does actually count?

Gizmo2k you are a legend! Some people are too stubborn to admit and change a mistake. I thought you were like that so my bad! Everyone makes mistakes the good ones fix them. So not a dick move you are setting a great example!

OK you wrote "I'm sure you'll get the Millionaire achievement without this need of replaying missions."

But I have replayed missions and none of them added to my story score.
So why are you mentioning replays?

OK now I am confused. I replayed another mission ("Lost in transit") and I got extra story points this time? Why did it not work on another mission that I replayed?

Is it that you have to improve on your previous score?

Played this 10 years ago! But yeah, I think it only counts the difference in replaying towards the total. So if you got 10,000 first, then got 11,000 on replay, it'll only go up by 1,000. (made up numbers to show the effect.) hope that helps?

Maybe someone who's played recently can shine a light on it?

@Bazze94 - You need to "choose" one score to eclipse. Either mission (which this guide helps with), or city (which is what the glitch helps you eclipse, as described in the other solution).

Thanks to Gizmo2k for this solution, I got the achievement on my last vehicle mission re-do, the Ascot Bailey, which brought me to 1,012,708. I was about 90k short after the story, and used the car/destruction multiplier at the end of the 12 vehicle missions to push me over $1MM.

My best total, BY FAR, was that last Ascot Bailey mission, where I netted $45,364 (on hard, obviously). Returning to that personal garage in Oyster Bay is key, because it's very easy to start off the multiplier with the 1-3 cars parked in that tiny back alley, and then there are a TON of cars parked on the street and in nearby apartment building lots. I came back with a little over half the time left and just went to town. I think I had a 19x multiplier before I had to double back to get respawning cars, and just missed out on continuing the streak. I ended up with S grades on all of these vehicle re-dos with the exception of the Shubert Beverly (B) & Shubert Hearse (C). So even if you don't hit S on everything, making hay on a few can really pay off.

Good luck to all those attempting it legit!

You can see your score total on the map screen in the lower right corner. Either earn 1,000,000 points in "Mission Score" or "Bonus Score". A combination of the two scores will not work, you have to earn the full million in one score or the other. To maximize your "Mission Score", play on Hard difficulty and try to chain head shots together. There are several good missions to focus on to rack up huge scores, like "Kill the Accountant" or "I Got the Stones", which can make up almost half a million between them if you maintain your chains. You can replay missions to improve your scores, but only your highest total for that mission will count towards your score.

unwraper1 has discovered a glitch that currently allows you to exploit the "Bonus Score" to get this trophy by falling through the map. Getting the trophy via this method will take roughly 3.5 hours of falling, depending on your starting score. See the video below and this post by AJ1127 for details. This can be done while working towards your Explorer trophy as well. See that trophy for details.

Thanks to M00nkey and Guttsu-87 for the tips. Thanks to AJ1127 for pointing out Bonus Score can unlock the trophy.

For completing each mission (30 pieces), you will receive points, the better you pass, the more points. Chains of headshots significantly increase the number of points. Completing on average difficulty increases the number of points received for a mission by 50%, completing on hard - by 100 %.Each mission can be replayed as much as you like.

If you don’t want to bother with this trophy, then there is one easy way to get it while receiving the Explorer trophy. just do everything as written in the last hint with a bug. the trophy will be given after you score 1,000,000 points in one flight. it will take about 3-4 hours.

Be careful not to repeat my mistake!
After completing the story, you CANNOT replay missions in order to increase the coefficient.
You need to score a million from the current game.

I am adding information - as of April 28, 2016. The glitch with a car flying over the city works. I don’t see the point in tormenting myself with this “trophy”.

Try to increase the score multiplier in tasks as much as possible, one of the best tasks is the penultimate one in the Don port, I personally got a x55 multiplier there and ended up with 450+ points on high difficulty.

Of course, the easiest way to get a million is by completing the game on hard - precisely due to the fact that all points received for a mission on hard are multiplied by 100%. It is better to immediately try to complete missions with a difficulty of one and two stars to the maximum (that is, to an S rating), missions with three and four stars do not have to try to complete them to an S - an A or B rating will be quite enough to make a million in the end. To obtain an S rating in missions, there are two ways - a quick passage and, as a result, a time bonus or a chain of kills. You shouldn’t specifically try to get headshots - a chain of 10 kills, for example, can be easily obtained by throwing grenades at groups of enemies or blowing up cars they are hiding behind. Exploding a car, by the way, also gives a multiplier and prolongs the chain, so if the chain is about to be interrupted, and the next victim is not visible, you can blow up the car.

I played it on hard for my own pleasure. I tried to pass it the first time, and didn’t overdo it too much. As a result, after passing the company, I scored 980,000. So go ahead, it’s better on hard right away. I also received a trophy for cars, I scored around 600 kills.

If you get the “Researcher” trophy through a gap through a store window, then you don’t have to worry about this trophy. It will fall out after about 4-5 hours of free fall "IN A CONTRACT".

Forget about the tips above, if you complete the achievement for 1000 miles, you will accumulate 15 times as many points automatically, so of course you need to complete the DLS only on easy difficulty so as not to suffer

In the mission to kill the accountant, I received a x39 multiplier and scored 220+ thousand points for this mission (played on hard drive). Everything is simple, before starting we buy grenades and drive to a point on the map, launch the mission and go to war! Cars that are facing you with the gas tank facing you (he is always on the left in any car) we blow it up by hitting him, which is the other side - we throw a grenade under it. We knock out the remaining enemies from the Thompson, when you get to the accountant, don’t try to catch up with him, but just blow up his car with a shot at the gas tank! Sit down get into the convertible nearby and drive to the save point

Before you take on this achievement, check out the "Explorer" achievement.
We are going to the same place where the car falls through the textures, when the car starts falling you will be awarded points in yellow numbers in the middle of the screen, their total number is indicated in the upper right corner. Approximately 249 points are awarded in 2-3 seconds, when the value in the upper right corner reaches 1,000,000, the achievement will open, it took me 3 hours, the main thing is to start right away and score the required amount, if you restart the game or start from a checkpoint, you will have to re-type this value, and not from the one you left off.
