How to unlock the Test Pilot achievement in Mars Horizon - Definitive Guide

Note: Even though the achievement description says before April, 1961, if your launch date is April, 1961 it will still count.
You do have to go fairly quick so just focus on milestones and because you are going to be limited in your mission capacity try and avoid request missions unless you know they won't delay any milestone missions. You may also have to do non optimal launch windows in the interest of launching immediately so just reload the auto save if anything explodes.
For research focus on the mission and payload first then the actual parts if needed. This way you can use the month or two while you build the payload to research the rocket parts so they are ready to build once the payload is complete. You can skip either lunar orbit or animal in space path, you only need one to begin researching human in space.
For vehicles and buildings research you will need to get to the fourth row of vehicle parts in order to get a booster and upper stage capable of launching the manned orbiter. You will also need to research a medium launch pad under buildings. The launchpad takes a while to build so try and not leave that for last.
