How to unlock the Colony Defense achievement in Mass Effect 2 - Definitive Guide

EDIT: Check out JOHNNYx76 solution for help with the Husks before the Praetorian fight that I show in my video. There are some nice tips in his solution so please take the time to thumb up his solution if it helped you out!

You get this achievement when you finish the "Go to Horizon" mission. At the end of this mission is a boss: Praetorian. I've posted a YouTube video I made below to show the actual fight on Insanity (I even said PS3 Trophy lol...).

The basics of this fight are pretty simple:

1. Praetorian is usually Armor.

2. Praetorian has a Barrier regeneration move that replenishes Barrier.

3. Don't use cover in the traditional sense - stay off the cover and shoot through openings and over top the cover to keep from getting hit.

4. Run (press and hold A) as less as possible. The reason being is that Shepard likes to drop down into cover every time you're within a few feet of it.

That's pretty much it. If you have ammo for the Collector Particle Beam (gathered earlier in the level), it is very effective against Praetorian whether he has Barrier up or not.

If you don't have ammo for it, try to stick to the Assault Rifle and Sniper Rifle as these are the most effective vs. armor.

Use the incendiary Ammo tech. I'm not sure if this boss resists it (it doesn't according to the radial menu), but equip it just in case as it's effective against armor.

That's about it. Good luck!

P.S. Hopefully the quality will improve on the video below. I'm getting a message from YouTube saying it's still being processed.

Glad you liked it and thank you. I'm recording some of the tougher fights in the game, so I'll be uploading them on YouTube and posting them here when they're relevant to a solution. I think I got my audio sync problems fixed too finally!

This is a solution for the husks/scions that you have to fight before the praetoian.

I was getting killed within 30 seconds on insanity with the husks rushing me and the scions using there powers (forgot what its called)

When you hack the door don't move forward, instead move to the right and look towards the computer terminal where you'll find the 2 scions standing behind it, which you can snipe/use biotics on at your leisure until they're dead.

Then equip cryo/incinarate ammo, (if you have them) go down to set off the husks but remember to keep moving while you finish them off to avoid them crowding you.

Hope this helped

Story related. If you want more info, continue reading. Otherwise, know that this will unlock through the natural progression of the story.

After recruiting the first four crew members (Mordin, Grunt, Archangel, and Jack), the Illusive Man will inform you that a human colony, Horizon, is under attack. This will be a fairly straightforward mission. You will also meet two enemies for the first time, the collectors and husks. Collectors are like your standard enemies that you’ve fought quite a few times. Husks are a pain. They will run straight at you and explode. This is a good time to start working on Brawler, by the way.

Halfway through the mission, you’ll encounter someone hiding in a bunker. He’ll tell you to get a transmission tower online and activate the colony’s defenses. When you reach the tower and activate it, you’ll have to survive two waves of collectors and husks. After the two waves are defeated, you get one more new enemy, the praetorian. Use heavy weapons to take down it’s armor. When there’s a purple shield around it, save your ammo. When you’re able to shoot it again, it will have a barrier. Continue to do this until it’s armor is exhausted. Once the praetorian is gone, you get to see an old friend.

Story trophy. As the game progresses, you will go to the Horizon colony, where collectors land and kidnap people. At the end of the task the trophy will be yours

When defending anti-aircraft guns, the best position is on the bridge between the two tents on the left. By choosing your position wisely relative to curbs and stairs, you can even avoid damage from the Azarian counterparts of Manbearpig.
