How to unlock the Long Service Medal achievement in Mass Effect 2 - Definitive Guide

The other solution is perfect but there's an alternative to those that don't have an ME1 game save or doesn't want to play through twice.

If you download the "Genesis" DLC for Mass Effect 2 and run through it with a new character then you'll be given this achievement at the end of your first playthrough.

I just got this game finally. My ME1 save was on an my old 360. Glad to see this pops for Genesis since I could not resist buying it to Save Wrex and kill Ashley.

Definitely, I lost my save for Mass Effect 1 a while before I started Mass Effect 2 and was very pleasantly surprised when it popped up for me. It's not the best way to get the achievement cost-wise but it's at least an option if the time it would take to do two playthroughs is more valuable.

Hopefully, the positive votes help show that it's correct; the solution's been up for about 6 months, I'm sure if it were incorrect I'd have numerous negative votes by now. If it works for anyone then I'd love confirmation though as I can entirely understand why you'd be hesitant to buy fairly pointless DLC for one achievement. Cheers!

Exactly as it states. Either beat the game with the same character twice or my personal preference, Just upload your character from any Mass Effect completed playthrough. 2nd option is best because it starts you off with many bonuses.

I have a few questions:

1) Do you HAVE to beat it with the same character cause it says "Complete Mass Effect 2 twice"?

2) Do you get the bonuses the first time around if you just import your Mass Effect 1 character?

3) What are the bonuses (Message me the answer if this counts as a spoiler)?

1) yes

2) yes

3) Depending on your exact stats from mass effect, I got about 150,000 credits, and 10,000 of each, Palladium, Ifidium, Platinum, and Element Zero.

On (3), you also carry over some paragon/renegade points as well from ME1. My ME1 character was close to maxed paragon and this filled up the first paragon bar when carried over into ME2.

You do NOT have to beat Mass Effect 2 with the same character to unlock this achievement! You can beat it twice with any character you would like. It is much easier to start the game with a Mass Effect 1 save though as the bonus is pretty nice. Also, you get a huge bonus for having this achievement when starting a new game (I think 25% more experience, and 50-60k of each mineral to start)

Just a side-note, but importing a Lvl. 60 ME 1 character will start you off at level 5 with 50,000 credits, 10,000 of each resource and some Renegade/Paragon points. If your character was "rich" (my character had maxed out credits at the end of ME 1) you'll start with an additional 100,000 credits.

I'm going for this achievement this week, trying insanity, I just created a new character (Engineer). I did get a bonus for having beat the game once (No Mass Effect 1 import). When I started it up I had 200,000 Credits and 50,000 of each element along with 25% XP bonus and additional Biotic Power.

The trophy description is pretty self-explanatory, but a brief addendum:

You can also unlock this if you import choice data from the Mass Effect: Genesis Digital Comic into Mass Effect 2.

The only way NOT to get this trophy on your first play-through is to start up directly into Mass Effect 2 without porting anything into it.

Self-explanatory. If you bought the game new, then there will be a code for the Cerberus Network pack that includes the digital comic. If you rented or bought it used and you don’t want to buy the Cerberus Network pack, then you’ll have to playthrough twice. Your game save carries over from playthrough to playthrough or if you hit level 30, you can start a new game.

Since Mass Effect 1 has now been released on PS3, you can import a character from ME1 and that will count for this trophy.

This is a story related achievement.

You will have two options with this achievement, either play the game through twice and complete it, or import a previous profile. If you are new to the Mass Effect game series you may be missing out on some back-story but this won’t affect your gameplay.

If you have played Mass Effect previously you will be able to import your old character into your current game. Once you start a new game select Import from the bottom of the ID screen and select your profile.

Note: You must have finished the game, if you are in the middle of a playthrough with a high-level character and do not finish you will only be displayed with the first playthrough information.

Complete the game twice to get the trophy. On my own behalf, I will add that it will be interesting to go through the game once with a completely good character, with the positive karma of the Hero, and a second time with the negative karma of the Renegade, performing negative actions.

Another option for getting a trophy is to watch an interactive comic before starting the second part, then the trophy will be given after the first passage.

Since the release of Mass Effect on PS3, the trophy description has changed to be the same as on other platforms: "Complete Mass Effect 2 twice or complete using a character carried over from Mass Effect 1." But the option of getting this trophy by watching a comic from the Cerberus DLC works.
