How to unlock the Virtually Impossible achievement in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty - Definitive Guide

This is complete bullshit and the most difficult trophy in the game, which will require you to have perfect knowledge of MGS2 mechanics and will take a lot of time. There are a total of 500 tasks, this includes training in virtual reality, as well as alternative missions. The trophy will be given when all the characters have the number 100% next to them. You don't have to take any places, just complete the task. There are 7 characters to choose from: Raiden, Raiden in a ninja suit (unlocks after 50% of completed Raiden missions), Raiden X (100% for Raiden and Raiden ninja), Snake, Pliskin (50% of completed missions for Snake), Snake in a tuxedo (100% for Snake and Pliskin) and Snake MGS1 (100% for Snake, Pliskin and Snake in a tuxedo). The cards for all characters are mostly the same, differing only in the difficulty of completing the task.

Missions are divided into Virtual Reality and Alternative. VR includes Sneaking modes (any detection on these maps is considered a failure of the task, 20 maps in total, in the first ten you just need to run to the finish line, in the second ten you must first kill/put to sleep all enemies), Weapon (8 types of weapons, 5 cards for each , where you need to destroy all targets), First Person (only available to Raiden and Snake, playing MGS2 as a first-person shooter) and Variety (a hodgepodge of tasks, each character has a different number of them). Alternative includes modes Bomb Disposal (5 maps, where you need to find and defuse hidden explosives), Elimination (10 maps, you need to quickly eliminate all enemies), Hold Up (10 maps, you need to force all enemies to surrender, any detection is considered a failure of the task) and Photograph (only available to Raiden and Snake, you need to photograph certain things).

Raiden . The simplest missions are where you will easily take first place for the In It to Win It trophy. Run, get acquainted with the maps, memorize. The only difficult mission here is Variety 04 (kill 8 soldiers in a huge area before they get to Emma), which will require a little skill.

Raiden Ninja . The difficulty in VR and alternatives will slightly increase relative to the simple Raiden, but you won’t have to worry about training with weapons for a long time, because This character only has HF available. Blade.

Raiden X. Just one mission, but what a mission! You need to go naked through 5 maps in a row in 2.5 minutes without being detected. Nothing complicated, even if you burn it, you will start not from the first map, but from the one on which you were found, although the timer does not reset.

Snake . Almost the same Raiden, but more complicated. Problems will most likely arise in Variety 04, you need to defend Meryl, this time you will have to shoot 26 soldiers who are scattered throughout the map. I advise you to immediately gobble up all the pentazemine (this is enough for 2 minutes) and carefully and quickly shoot the enemies, periodically put away your weapons and inspect the map, because... There are really a lot of enemies and they come from all sides.

Pliskin . This is where the first serious problems may arise. Variety 01, a wicked sniper mission to protect a plate of food, can get on your nerves again. There are only 7 soldiers, but they are already standing in shelters in advance and marching in an absolutely random order. There can also be 2 options - either they go one at a time, or they rush seven. In VR, some targets will appear and disappear (when targets are invisible, they are invulnerable). In Bomb Disposal you will get acquainted with a new type of explosive, which has a presence sensor (no closer than 2 meters, otherwise it will explode), plus sensor B does not show the location of the bomb on the map, but only gives sound guidance. But Hold Up modes are simpler, because Pliskin is armed with a USP with a silencer.

Snake in a tuxedo . The last test before the difficult trials ahead. And again Variety, and again defending a plate of food. Only this time there is no pentazemine, 20 soldiers, although they are marching in single file, 2 groups of 10 people. Lie down on the floor to reduce hand shaking and shoot. In VR, in weapon training, like Pliskin, targets will appear and disappear, which can also cause a lot of trouble, especially with a grenade launcher and PSG1. There is no nitrogen spray in Hold Up missions, so if you put someone to sleep, it will take a long time to wake them up and there will definitely not be enough time to complete the mission.

Snake MGS1 . It’s not for nothing that this character is unlocked only after 100% completion of the three previous missions. This is where you will need all the skill of playing MGS2. First of all, there is no radar in all missions; you need to know every map and enemy routes literally by heart. Hell itself - Variety 01, yes, another sniper mission. This time you have to protect the cardboard box from 31!!! soldier (and they move noticeably faster than in missions for other Persians). There is a trick here, arranged by the developers - one of the soldiers at the beginning of the mission stands not far from the box and goes in the opposite direction - kill him as early as possible, otherwise you simply won’t be able to find him later. There is no grenade launcher in weapon training; targets will have to be destroyed with hand grenades (they explode with a delay and bounce off surfaces). In the Hold Up mode, they issue M4!!!, when handling it, the force of pressing the success of the operation depends. In general, any missions are given critically little ammunition; you will have to learn to knock out enemies with one blow (to the balls) behind the backs of their colleagues. In terms of complexity, Snake MGS1 is much more difficult than all previous characters combined.

If, when creating a save file for VR missions, you enter “UUDDLRLRBA” in the Codename column, then absolutely all levels will be open to you from the very beginning. This does NOT mean they are completed, you just gain access to them.

As Snake in Variety 04, you can jump to the lower platform through the railing on the one you appear on and calmly kill everyone

In general, it’s all about guides and practice. However, in hold up missions with the M4 it is very important to have the right controller. If your button is loose , but you can’t find the edge where Snake says “freeze!”, which means you need to change the gamepad. Seriously, for a long time I could not understand how it was possible to do missions that could not be completed. As a result, I found an old dual shock, on which the button "sat" very tightly. It was very easy to get through with him.

Who, like me, could not train their finger to press lightly? in Hold UP missions for MGS1 Snake, you can pull a rubber band on the gamepad so that it presses on the button, and put small pieces of paper between the button and the rubber band, thereby creating that same weak pressure, now when you need to freeze a soldier, just take the weapon in your hands and Snake immediately will raise the sight without firing, freeze the soldier, put away the weapon and move on to the next one.
