How to unlock the Perfected: Metal Slug 5 achievement in METAL SLUG ANTHOLOGY - Definitive Guide

There is an exploit that can be used if you have a second controller. Connect both controllers and start a game on easy (in the collection game options) with player 1 controller. Play as normal until you run out of lives using that controller, then press start (right touchpad) on the other controller when the continue countdown starts on the player you were just using. Basically keep alternating between players/controllers. This will prevent the game from counting a continue and you can play at your own pace without worrying about dying.

If you don't have a second controller then it must be done legit with 5 or fewer continues. There is no trick to doing it this way other than practice, practice, and more practice. Metal Slug is not an easy game and will require many hours to master the game to pull this off. You must memorize enemy spawn locations, weapon and secret locations, and boss attack patterns. Even then you will die by accident a lot and it only takes one hit. I highly recommend using a 2nd controller if you have one to make this trophy trivial, unless you really enjoy Metal Slug.

You have to make it through all 5 missions without using more than 5 continues (you get 3 lives for each continue). Patience and practice are going to be your best friends on this run. Tanks are going to be your best friends in the missions as they will not only give you more fire power, but also allow you to take multiple hits of damage before they explode leaving you defenseless again (and make boss fights MUCH easier).

Bosses will obviously be your biggest threat to keeping your lives intact, so here are tips on how they attack and how to defeat them (hopefully) easier:

Mission 1 Mini-Boss: The mini-boss of this level is a smaller tank like yours. It's first attack is an arm that comes out the top and fires a laser across the floor a little in front of it, so just make sure you're about a quarter of the screen or more away from it when it does this and you will be fine. Next it will fire shots out the front of it while also firing lobbing missiles at the same time causing you to be very careful when trying to jump to avoid either, but you can use the tank jump in/out trick to avoid them if need be (and if you still have your tank). The only other thing it does which isn't an attack is it will drive across the screen to the other side and then resume attacks from there (not really an issue, but just something to keep in mind). Just keep attacking and he'll fall in no time.

Mission 1 Boss: The boss of this mission is a large tank that definitely doesn't exactly move like a normal tank, which makes for some fun during this fight. When the battle begins, it will fire a lobbing fire ball at your from it's main cannon which is easy to avoid by just moving away from it or jumping right up on to the tank and ducking before it can get the shot off. After it fires the shot, the tank will "pop a wheelie" for lack of a better description and come towards you, dropping back down after a little bit. To avoid being crushed, move all the way to the left side of the stage. Next it will begin shooting out long shots from it's side gatling gun across the screen and at you in various bursts that you can run and jump to avoid. After it takes enough damage, it will repeat these attacks, but with more fire balls shot per time and occasionally more long shots from the gatling gun as well. Just keep avoiding the attacks and picking up the power-up guns the prisoners from the left side of the screen drop to help defeat him as quickly as possible.

Mission 2 Boss: You will be fighting this giant plane boss while flying in your own personal one. The fight starts out with the boss on the left side and fires off a ton of small energy orbs towards the right, only for them to come back towards the left in a full screen pattern making you have to weave your way through them. While it's doing this attack, stay all the way to the left and fire away until you have to make your way through the energy orbs. The plane will then move to the other side of the screen and begin letting out fiery helicopter blades at you that will drift back before stopping and then coming back after you and circling around the screen, so you need to shoot or avoid these until they leave the screen. After that, the plane will then shoot fire out of it's thrusters and then move all the way to the top or bottom, so make sure to follow it in whichever direction it goes. It will then move back to the left side and repeat both sides of attack again. Once it returns back to the left side again, the side turret cannons will fire electric balls at you that you need to move down the screen to avoid. It will then repeat it's attacks until it takes enough damage and then flies away ending the mission.

Mission 3 Boss: This boss looks like a mechanical cockroach (I guess) that climbs down the side of a building you're in. While fighting the boss, cannon enemies will appear occasionally and you should take them out so you can focus on the boss. The first attack it does is shooting large shells at you at different levels from it's cannon top that you either have to jump over or duck under in order to avoid. The next type of "attack" it does it send outs shockwaves that destroys the floor you're on and drops you down a level, but really nothing to avoid with it. It will then shoot out missiles on the floor below you the move up towards you, so either shoot them to destroy them or move/jump to avoid them as they come up. It will then go back to it's large shell attack before sending out the shockwaves again and dropping you a floor again. It then keeps repeating those same attacks over and over until you finish it off.

Mission 4 Boss: You'll be fighting a submarine in the middle of the desert here...yeah, sure. The submarine will come out from under you to begin the fight and then shoot fire balls into the air and then they will come down all across the screen, so move around between then to make sure to not take damage. It will then release energy balls into the air from the back end, so run to the front and they should avoid you. It will then shoot off another set of fire balls and then begin to submerge itself again. If you keep attacking it with shots and grenades, you should be able to kill it prior to it even gets down.

Final Mission Mini-Boss: I'm not sure if this really should be considered a mini-boss since you fight the main boss right after but that's how I'm going to classify this one. Basically you are fighting two enemies in control room on either side of a tower that are controlling these swinging arm type things that shoot laser shots out of the bottom at you. While that is going on, they shoot up purple worms to drop down on you. Focus on one control room at a time while knifing any worms near by and also while avoiding the laser beams shot at you. Once you finish off one side, move to the other and repeat the process until it explodes as well.

Final Mission Boss: The final boss looks like some sort of demon dragon reaper type thing. When the battle starts, you'll see it's chest which has a skull on it which will be your target for this part. Blue orbs will appear at the top of the screen and then come at you where you stand, so keep moving from side to side in order to avoid them. After a while, a large amount of orbs will appear at the top of the screen and the boss will fly away as they come down at you in a huge cluster. Keep moving to the side away from them slowly so that they come down just next to you and you are able to avoid them all. The boss will then attack you with a scythe type weapon, showing where it is going to attack by puffs of smoke coming from the ground, so move away from that area prior to it landing. Once the scythe attack lands, it will cause smoke looking things kind of fountain out at you, so avoid them as well. It will then repeat these attacks until you defeat it.

Once this final boss falls and you have not used more than 5 continues, the trophy will be yours!
