You don't actually need to catch the fish yourself, simply gaining one from another player or the spawn chest works too.

If you want to catch one you will need to make a fishing rod (3x Sticks, 2x String). Cast it into any body of water with

and when you notice it sink under, press

once more.

Anyone whom is having trouble with this, I could not get it to unlock at all until I caught a Salmon, and ate it. (I caught Salmon in water; same place as Cod.) As soon as I grabbed it out of the furnace I saw the game save at the top right hand corner and achievement popped quickly after. Hope this helps.

No need to actually catch a fish or even eat it apparently. You can just kill it and cook the raw meat in a furnace. Then after a few seconds it popped for me and I didn't even eat it.

also you don't need a rod to catch one, just jump in a river or lake and kill a salmon with your weapon then go cook it.

Note: After acquiring a fish, I tried using a campfire for cooking the fish and did not get the achievement; cooking the fish in a furnace will give you the achievement
