How to unlock the Flag Patrol achievement in Minesweeper Flags - Definitive Guide

You should set the options to 2 players, both the options at the bottom set to Yes, obviously Expert difficulty, and timer at 5 seconds.

The far bottom option will allow you to win once you hit 26 points. You'll win at this point anyway but it'll make the games go faster.

The next option up will allow you to check multiple flags in a turn. This is obviously a good thing, because you'll be able to click up to 5 flags in one turn.

The timer set to 5 seconds will hinder the computer greatly. For lack of a better word, the AI cheats sometimes (going into the deep grey and pulling out multiple flags; hitting a 1 surrounded by 8 greys and almost always hitting the flag right off of it), but with the timer on 5 seconds the AI will get only 1 flag per turn, sometimes 2.

You're going to obviously have to be planning your moves ahead, keeping in mind that the AI is going to snatch the very obvious moves right away. Always be looking for that next move, always move and mark quickly and precisely.

Good luck.

very good description. i would also say that i found it easiest when i worked the outside first, then worked my way inside. if you take care of the border, it seems as if you can "work ahead" a little bit and find more then the computer.

Look for the patterns of the mines as you play more games. There is a certain pattern of mines that repeat themselves. This takes a long time to do but it's possible to catch similarities in what the mines do.

Personally, I'm finding setting the timer to maximum 60 seconds helps me a lot more than the AI, maybe I'm just a slow thinker..

I just thought I'd mention that although I was playing Expert when I hit my 30th win, not every game of Flags that I played was done on Expert difficulty. I did the achievement over multiple days. Not sure if it helps anyone, but it may only require that the 30th win be on Expert. Not sure if anyone cares enough to try it out to confirm it though. As stated though, I did it with roughly 25 Expert wins, and a handful of beginner wins at the start (to learn how Flags works). It was accumulated over multiple sessions as well, so my final session had 11 Expert wins to finish the achievement. Hope it helps someone who may not be so good with Flags.

It's true. The number of times the AI hits a 1 flag is unbefrigginglievable. Good solution.

Thanks for the guide! I managed to win my first match with 26-25 by guessing wildly for the last point. The Ai at expert really does cheat. He know were they are so many times when there is no indicator were they can be. lol

From the main menu, select Single Player > Flags. The settings should be as follows:

  • Turn time limit: 5 sec
  • # of players: 2
  • Difficulty: Expert
  • Move again on Flag Found: Yes
  • Early winner: Yes

Move again on Flag Found is going to allow you to make multiple moves in a row, while Early winner is going to make 26 the mark to reach. As soon as you hit 26 flags, you win instantly. Turn time limit 5 sec will give the computer minimum time to mark flags, as they mark very slowly. The expert AI on this game not only automatically marks any flags that are "determined" (definitely minds beyond a shadow of a doubt due to numbers around it) and has a nasty habit as well of marking mines in the middle of the field for no apparent reason, and still getting them. When you're playing the computer you need to always know what your next move is going to be, as you're playing with the same restrictions. Enough practice and vision and this will be yours. Try 10 sec move times if you're having trouble, but keep in mind the AI will only mark 1 flag on average, 2 flags *sometimes* per turn with a 5 sec timer.
