The Melting Remnant is unlocked by killing a cumulative total of 1300 units. For reference, I unlocked this clan in 15 runs, most of which made it past the second boss.
Unfortunately, there's not a lot that can be done to speed things up. The best you can do is take a trial at the beginning of a level that spawns extra enemies at the beginning, which should add an additional 7-10, but this is largely down to simply time played.
