I managed to get this on my own with a chair. By changing places with the chair I was able to log in separately as each player. The achievement still popped even with me controlling the 2nd player. For the race itself if you can get right behind the other player you'll draft off of them and build up your boost much quicker. Keep boosting right into them to stay behind them and repeat as much as you can. I got this on my first attempt in this manner.

You earn this trophy in the speed freak mode with the symbol with two people beside it. You will need two controllers. You do not need to actually use the other controller, just make sure it is on. Make sure as soon as your adrenaline meter is full to use your boost, that way you can start refilling your meter as soon as possible. Once again, I recommend using midnight sun because you are able to earn more points and it is a longer track. Boost 10 times and the trophy is yours.
