Just in case you are wondering, as I was when I was trying for this... this is cumulative
I raced 1 season of Challenge mode and during the first 9 races deliberately sat behind 1st place as much as possible during laps 1 & 2 to rack up as much "slipstream" time as possible. I would then get past them in the final lap to win.
I had it by Misano, some tracks are better for slipstreaming than others but I averaged over a minute in a 3 lap race set on gentle.
Very straight forward, you can see how much you earned at the post race screen and the achievement pops at the end of the race
