How to unlock the Autonomous Collective achievement in Mount & Blade: Warband - Definitive Guide
This was a difficult one for me and I didn't get this until quite late in my play through. Towards the start of my campaign while I was a vassal the marshall would change regularly but from what I found until you start losing wars against other factions the marshall can stay indefinitely as if you're faction keep winning the king was no reason to change his marshall. I didn't win this until there were only 2 factions left including the one I was a vassal of and the marshall was indicted for treason and it fell to me.
Firstly you need a high renown to even be considered a candidate so until you're >1000 it's really not a possibility. Once you have a foothold with a few fiefs/castles and start winning battles with a bit of ease then you can start aiming for it.
You'll also need to ensure you have a high enough rating with your other lords and preferably the king of your faction. This means when the time comes for another marshall to be appointed you can try and convince them to support you. When I won this my rating with the king was 70 and he was basically throwing me every captured town at this point.
Like a lot of the achievements in the game this one can be a grind but winning battles and keeping on good terms with other lords of your faction and specifically the king will mean you should become marshall after a bit of time.

If you help a claimant take back their throne they will automatically make you Marshall but this doesn't count. You have to be elected into it.

Ahh I wasn't aware of that, that's for adding this.

To do this, you need to fight for all the lords of the faction so that you have good relations with each of them + capturing castles is senseless and merciless. Then there will be a message that the King will grant you the position of marshal - accept, the trophy is yours

I got it after I captured almost all the kingdoms.
In order not to complete useless and tedious quests of lords, it will be easier when defeating an enemy lord, not to capture him, but to release him, thereby getting +-7 friendship points with him
And with the complete capture of this kingdom, all the friendly lords whom we released will join ours, and thereby vote for us in the lord elections.
It's much easier this way
