When fighting for a faction from time to time a newly acquired Fief will be given to one of the lords. To get a fief you need to be very loved so people support you, but the best way is to get a Fief awarded is capturing it in the first place.
Wait for a war and train you army however you see fit. Once in a war look for a Fief that has very weak and small amount of soldiers in it and attack. Having someone with a high engineering skill will help you assault the Fief faster.
To get backup ask one of the lords in your faction to follow you, if you have a good relationship with that lord you might pull off getting the support for the assault.
Once you win the Fief for your faction, ask your king to award the fief to you, because you led the assault you'll likely get it.
