Start by setting the difficulty to rookie and entering the event.
The trick library makes this very easy to get.
Pause with and select the library of tricks. You'll see a whole bunch of them. There are 4 tiers of a variety of different creative tricks, totaling up to some 50 tricks.
The key to winning is to take your time and find a stretch with a steep jump in front of it where you can really get up to speed. A very fast bike will help.
You can select your bike using from the garage and upgrade it. Upgrade the exhaust and tires to make the bike faster and easier to handle. This also helps with other events.
After each jump, take your time to find a long strip leading up to a good ramp.
Each time you launch off of a ramp, just can pause and consult the trick guide. Then do a trick or group of tricks and make sure you land properly. Be careful: A bad landing nullifies a trick attempt.
You can note down each trick you do so that you don't repeat them. Just try out a new one out of the many available each time. All you really need is around 4-5 tricks on the Rookie difficulty, but you can do more just in case.

This will be easiest on the first few freestyle events as you need quite a low overall score to win it. You will actually have to be careful pulling the tricks and not just mash the analogue stick for this one. Make a mental note of every trick you perform. There are loads of combinations so in theory it shouldn't be that hard. If you're having trouble winning, it won't hurt to do some of the tier 4 tricks to jack up some of the potential scores.
