How to unlock the Surfin' USA achievement in NASCAR The Game 2011 - Definitive Guide
Ok, so I suffered through 2 game save deletes but did manage to master all the tracks finally and here are some tips.
1) Using two controllers is faster than qualifying, because it automatically puts the primary controller on pole, and you do not have to watch the animations during pit stops.
2) since 5 fast lap times are needed, I found it much more efficient to set up a split race with primary profile on controller 1 (2 laps, 0 opponents, damage and tire wear off, cautions on {just incase}). I would run the race pitting the primary on the first lap and while cruising through the pits would drive controller 2 around to near the finish line. After pitting, drive around with primary and finish the race and then bring the second controller across to finish (1 lap down), then just re-run the race. Important! After the 5th race be sure to either return to the lobby or hit race again and wait for the save icon in the upper right to go away, then hit start and switch tracks. It seems that some of the progress from the 5th race will be lost if you do not do either of these and just switch tracks straight away.
3) If having trouble reaching target times, there is an exploit where you can use the same settings as above and have the 2nd controller back up and induce a caution. Do this 3 times and the race will end under caution and by some (so far un-patched) miracle you will get credit for reaching the target time. Or you can do it the way I did, set up a race on the hardest difficulty and use the opponents to draft around the track.
I hope this may help, and don't forget... BACK UP YOUR SAVE REGULARLY in intervals no longer than what you are fully willing to redo.

I put this in your guide thread the other day on x360a. Worked fantastically for me and I had that extra time to test it with the save deletes.... ;)

if your like me and have trouble with some lap times or your game glitched for the 9 th time and you dont want to waste hours mastering the tricker times heres a simple/easy trick
for starters the game patch has to be deleted when asked to update decline it .
Go to split screen and turn opponents off. Put the laps on 2, cautions ON, and pick the track you need the lap time for. as the race starts, pick up player 2 and hammer LT to drive in reverse and cause a caution. DO NOT PIT and SELECT LANE for player 1. repeat two more times and the race will end under caution. Surprise! the lap time now has a star for it if you did it correctly.
This glitch absolutely DOES NOT work on the following tracks:
1. Richmond (some say it has but I couldn't get it to work)
2. Martinsville
3. Bristol (Day or night)
4. Dover
5. Kansas (some say it does not work)
6. Chicago (some say it does not work)
Make sure to make a back up save before you do the last track just in case the achievement does NOT unlock which it did for me yay!!!!!!!!!! waste more of my valuable gaming time .

The challenge may only arise in beating the target lap time. I advise you to choose a test drive, as no one will interfere. Fill with less fuel because your tank is full to begin with. On some tracks you may need to turn off the steering assist to increase speed.
