How to unlock the Have a Captain Cook! achievement in National Geographic Challenge! - Definitive Guide

You should be able to get two of these control achievements per game if you plan things carefully. You'll want to do this when you control both players -- I did this with the non-hotseat mode, easy difficulty, two players.

You win the game when you have 2200 points. You'll need to keep that in mind throughout the game. Pick a territory to start in, and put the other player as far away as possible. Put them in a place adjacent to some territories pre-assigned to you.

Basically the strategy you'll want to use is that you only want to control areas in the two regions you've picked. You want the other player to take over the areas you are preassigned in other regions, to subtract those from your points total. You'll also want not to take over any other regions with the second player, so that they won't cross your point total and win before you're done.

You can tell what region a territory is in by highlighting it and hitting A. Each region has a specific color which the points numbers are highlighted in.

For each turn: Take over the next territory in the region you've targeted first. When it's the other player's turn, have them take over a territory you own that you don't need, or move towards the next one. In the first region, just get them all regardless of order. In the second, you'll probably need to be careful to pick the one with most points last, just because it'll probably make you win early if you take it with a couple 100-point territories left. When you need to kill time with player two, just have them intentionally lose battles or move back-and-forth over territories they already own (which basically ends their turn without questions).

The achievement will pop as soon as you finish a region. The reason you can't do more than two regions in a game is that the territories become locked to you when you complete a region, meaning you can no longer lose those points from your total.

I got all six of these achievements in three games this way.

This was the only Explorer achievement i had left to get so i started a non-hotseat two player game and started Eastern Australia already owning three of the territories. After i got the sixth one they locked but i didn't get the achievement. I quit out and started another game, this time starting on Polynesia and it was the only Australian territory i owned. I then took Eastern Australia and the Have a Captain Cook! achievement popped. So far, this is the only glitchy achievement i've found for this game. I hope this solution helps anyone who is having problems with this or any of the other territory achievements.
