How to unlock the On a Roll achievement in National Geographic Challenge! - Definitive Guide

This is for winning territorial puzzle contests in Explorer. You'll need at least two controllers. A territorial puzzle happens when one player tries to take over a territory owned by another player.

I found this easiest with four controllers, mostly because the three other players could keep trying to take my territory, and as long as I won the territory would stay mine. I would set it up by starting each of the other players in a continent that had at least one territory pre-seeded with my color. I would then take over at least two territories in my starting continent so I could move back and forth between them with no real time penalty. Then I would have each other player try to take over one of mine to kick off a territorial contest.

Rinse and repeat. Just make sure not to make too many territories change hands or you might inadvertently win the game before you get the achievement (hence why player 1 just moves back and forth between territories rather than trying to win new ones).

Now this is important -- only the puzzle challenges, where you are putting pieces of a photo back together, count for this achievement. It seems semi-random what kind of territorial contest you'll get, and you won't get credit towards this achievement for multiple choice questions or other question types. Just the puzzles. I don't think losing the other types matters, but it's easy enough not to do it. So you'll be playing much more than 5 contests. However, once you get the fifth straight victory in a picture puzzle, the achievement will pop.

I just want to emphasize that this needs two controllers, as you say. I tried it in Hot Seat mode (one shared controller) and could not get it to pop. Also, I can confirm that it doesn't matter if you lose some competitive question rounds.

I can't get this to unlock. Is it a specific kind of puzzle challenge that you had to do in order? I've tried this several times but can't get it to unlock. I got the NTSC version of the disc so I'm not sure what the hell is going on.

Figured it out. My save file was corrupted. I erased the save file, cleared my cache and loaded the game up again. This time it popped when it was supposed to. If this happens to anyone else, keep this in mind...

You need 2 separate controllers. Please see my comment above for more details.

Okay quick question. Does the defender have to win the puzzle or is it the one trying to gain control of a territory already taken.

Before trying to unlock this achievement try these steps first.
1)Clear your cache -- press on the guide button, system settings, hard drive or memory card which ever method you use to save your game and before clicking on it press y and then press yes.
2) Make a new save/profile then proceed on to unlocking this achievement.

This is exactly what i did to unlock the achievement. Now unlike most people i like my achievement guide to be as detail as possible. step by step on how to get the achievement.

Now go to explorer mode click on standard. You want to be able to play with two controller so it unlocks and after that go to easy. Ok so your goal is to get the second controller to try to land on the first controller owned land. It will either trigger questions or a puzzle. if it triggers a puzzle or question always answer incorrectly with player 2. Your goal is too trigger a puzzle and have player 1 your profile to win 5 puzzles in a row. So when its player 1 turn just keep landing on the land you already own so it skips him. so player 2 will try to conquer your land every time and make sure player 1 wins it no matter what circumstance questions or puzzles. Once you win 5 puzzle games in a row the achievement will unlock.

Just a heads up there are two puzzle game it can either trigger. first one is the putting one picture up as fast as you can and you take turns or having to complete three pictures in the amount of time . Failure to place the three pictures will reset your counter towards 5 puzzle wons in a row. Always make sure player 1 wins and your gamertag should be connected to player 1. So when you start every puzzle player 1 will go first everytime. Any questions just ask.
