How to unlock the My Big Eight-O achievement in NBA 2K11 - Definitive Guide

Hi everybody!

Its a long way to 80..... but a little help are the special games where u got double xp.... if u reach a milestone in this matches they also give double xp...

The mental section is good at 70 - 75, before u spend xp in this section, i think its much better to increase your player in offense or defense because with a good skilled player its much easier to get an A+ that gives u 900xp

hope this can help u guys

The following stats are based on selecting a PG @ 6'7" with a "Pass First" trait (which should end up getting a default starting overall rating of 37).

Maxing out the following stats will get you the corresponding overall rating increase:

Offence:
Shoot Medium +4
Shoot 3PT +4
Pass +3
Ball Handle +3
Free Throw +2
Shoot Close +1
Ball Security +1
Shoot Off Dribble +1
Off Hand Dribbling +1

Defence:
On Ball Defence +4
Steal +3
Defensive Rebound +1

Physical:
Quickness +2
Speed +2
Strength +1
Stamina +1

Mental:
Off. Awareness +9
Def Awareness +10
Consistency +4

Any stat not mentioned here saw less than a +1 gain after maxing it out so if you wish to get this achievement as soon as possible focus on maxing out the stats listed first.

I found this to be very helpful but could you reorder the things by the way they appear on the menu?

from what i have discovered about the my player mode, the fastest way to increase your overall rating is to spend points on the stats in the mental section like off. awareness and def. awareness, every player starts out with a 25 rating in both categories, by increasing the mental game I saw a good 12 point increase in my rating over three games.

Here is two little tricks usefull to grind out your last levels of rating, as it all boils down to how much skill points you can get :

- First of all, remember that you double your skill points recieved during key games. There is no control on when you get key games during the regular season, as they're dependant on your schedule. However, every decisive games in playoff are key games. The trick is to simulate the first few games in each series until either team got 3 wins, then play and win the remaining games for double the skill points. Also, the NBA Finals seems to be exclusively key games, so it's all good.

(it was the case when I get there myself, I was playing for the Lakers against Miami. Miami was key games during the regular season, so it may be because of that. But, I was againt the Suns in a previous round, and they were key games because of Steve Nash during the regular season, but weren't during the first games of the serie, so I don't know. If anyone can confirm that NBA Finals are full of key games, I'll edit this).

- A little less known trick is a way to get much more skill points out of your drills, but it require a bit of setup, so it is not usable until later. You can aim to be all set up to abuse the 10 drills you get at the begining of your second season though. Remember that you get a new drill every 5 games, even simulated ones.

What you'll need is a drill you can get gold on everytime. I personnaly used the shot drill with my PG and it works wonder. What you have to do is max out every stat you'll get a boost in when you get gold on that drill, and then getting one or two attribute points back on the most expensive of those stats before playing the drill.

For exemple, with the shot drill : first max out shot inside, shot close, shot medium, shot 3PT and shoot off dribble (and yes it takes a while but it greatly improve your skill rating and your ability to get gold in this drill). You'll notice that when one of those attribute is maxed out, you won't get further point in it with the drill. So once you're maxed out, you can take away one or two points in 3PT shot, granting you about 1000 or 2000 skill points, and you're guaranteed to get a boost in that stat (one or two points) with your next drill (you'll get either one or two points each time). Rinse and repeat with each drill.

80 Overall with your My Player, this can take a season or two to achieve depending on how you made your My Player. The taller you made your My Player, the less skill points you will get per game and per accomplishment. In the games you play, you will want the have your quarter length set to 10 or 12 minutes long to help rack up points and either rebounds, blocks, steals, or assists. Also, try to always aim for a "A" or higher teammate grade and complete all three in-game objectives to increase skill points after each game. Drills are also helpful, but only do the drills you know your My Player will be good in so you can gain an extra 400 skill points and improve by 1 or 2 attributes in a category based on the drill. Once you reach 80 overall with your My Player, the trophy will appear.

This one will take the most time but will come while working towards all the other achievements. Every game will reward you skill points at the end of a game. Your team mate rating, game performance, completed objectives, highlight players and game result will earn you skill points to put towards your Player's stats. Doing drills and pick-up games also reward you with up to 400 skill points.

Getting A+'s are vital to getting this achievement quicker than normal. An A+ will net you 900 points per game compared to even an A at 750. Game performance with an A+ will probably bring in anything between 250 and 500 points and completing all objectives for that particular game will give you 300 points. Winning the game will give 100 points, while losing the game will take away 100 points. Career milestones such as scoring so many points in your career or recording X amount of steals in a single game will give hefty bonuses. Drills also help you along your way. I recommend only doing the shooting drill because it is by far the easiest to get Gold on, giving you 400 skill points as well as a free attribute upgrade.

To raise your overall rating faster, investing in Offensive and Defensive awareness is amazing for gaining points quickly. Other than that, invest in stats that are vital to your particular play style to improve your game on-court. Expect to achieve this somewhere around the end of the first season/start of the second.
