How to unlock the Cool Off The Hot Seat achievement in NCAA Football 12 - Definitive Guide

As the other guide states, use Texas! Let's go a bit further in depth, though:

Step 1: pick Texas
EDIT: Step 1A: It appears to make a difference after all, so go ahead and turn difficulty to "Heisman" with 15 minute quarters.

Step 2: The 2nd option on the menu is "Redshirt players". Select this.

Step 3: Redshirt EVERYONE that you can. This ensures that your team is terrible.

Step 4: Advance to season

Step 5: Advance week; select the last week possible (Conference Championship)

Step 6: Read a book. Or watch a movie. Or take a long walk. Seriously, the simming in this game is painfully slow.

Step 7: You most likely only won 2 games. Choose advance week one more time and advance to End of Season.

*Achievement Unlocked*

The preceeding steps were exactly what I did and I popped the achievement on the first try. I had seen a suggestion to nerf the starters, but it is MUCH quicker to redshirt them. If anyone has any problems or improvements, feel free to leave a comment.

Very strange to see such varying results. You could try changing the difficulty to Heisman and quarters to 15 minutes after redshirting everyone. I didn't mention it on the guide since I'm not 100% that it impacts simulatuons from the menu.

I laughed at #6, and then folded laundry, wrote emails, and finished 5-7, with 28% security. Barely scraped by, but I got it!

Got it finishing with 3 wins. I did modify my schedule and put in some highly ranked nonconference opponents in the first few weeks, which helped ensure some losses.

Anyone going for this I would suggest changing depth. Fill as many defensive spots with QBs and FBs if possible and put DT at the offensive line and just take out any impact players you may have. This is how I found success

Great guide!
After step 6 I was 5-7 with 52% security. I was a little worried but continued with step 7 and bam achievement unlocked.
When I checked security after step 7 my job security was only 14%

One thing I did was after red shirting everyone I could, I also adjusted the depth charts putting FB at QB, OL at WR, etc...

I don't know if this has any bearing on this achievement but went by your guide and went 4-8 my first try no pop and then 3-9 the next try and no pop. I went a step further and took off recruiting assistance and the next try went 3-9 again but got the achievement.

Did this method today, December 10th, 2015. I followed it exactly and ended up going 5-7 and had a job security percentage of 29%. Talk about a close call!

Should note that wins arnt the only thing that affect your job security %, someone kind of touched on the recruiting thing. but look at your contract notes, even if you lose the games but score 50 points a game you will still hit some of your coaching goals which will keep your % up. These achivements always annoy me, part luck part planning, no skill

Finsinished 1-11, and people should note that the security % is based off your contract goals, so you have to go all the way to the end of the season for it to register you failed your recuriting goals and whatnot. it pops up during that last simulation "adjusting contracts" sure enough i still had my job with 5 goals failed and 25% job security (failed goals were "Sign 1 top 100 prospects", "make it to a bowl game every season", finish 5th or better in the conference, beat a rival, and win 8 games)

Play as Texas go 2-10 only beating Rice and Kansas and if it still at 47% job security you will go down to 20% to 22% in the offseason you should get the achievement in 1 year.If you still dont get it just let me know

I had trouble with this achievement, simming through 2 excruciatingly long seasons and getting 6-6 both times. That's when I thought of a solution:

Change the dynamics of the conference.

I followed the steps that mattcrossUNC outlined, but I was still beating teams like Kansas, Baylor, Kansas State, even Oklahoma State. So I decided to up the ante.

When I first set up the Dynasty, I customized the conference and placed the top 5 teams (Oklahoma, Stanford, LSU, Oregon, Alabama) in the same division as Texas, and replaced some of the other teams with better ones to create a stronger second division (Boise State, Florida State, Ohio State, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M). This gave Texas a beastly schedule. Then I redshirted all the players and simmed through the season. I finished 1-11. Yay!

Just as an FYI: I checked the job security rating throughout the season, and it never fell below about 47%. It wasn't until after the end of the season that the screen came up showing 23% security. I wasn't fired, and while on that screen the achievement popped. Yay again!

Just to add to the Texas method above, I was having problems doing the redshirt method, but if you go to your depth chart before the season, and put defensive players (LE, RE, DT) as your first string QB, RB, and WRs, it should help a lot. You'll notice that these players now have very low ratings in offensive positions (most of mine were 40s). Also, move low rated players to starting positions wherever possible. Combine this with upping the difficulty to Heisman. I did this and went 0-12 on my first try. Sim past the Conference Championships and cheevo popped at the end of the season.

Start off by choosing Texas and become the head coach. Go to roster and edit everyone over 80 overall. Lower the first 5 options to 0 and then save. Continue that until all players over 80 overall change to 40 overall. Now go to your depth chart and make everyone that is now 40 overall a starting position. If you get to a position with no one that is 40 overall, just skip that position. It shouldn't matter if some positions have decent overall players. The positions that are most important to have starters at 40 overall are QB, HB, and WR. Now simulate to the start of the season. After that, simulate to conference championship week. You will most likely be 0-12 at the end of the conference championship week. You will not qualify for any bowls, so just simulate to the end of the season. The trophy will unlock after the season ends.

Credit to Dangles for this.

Start a new dynasty and choose a mediocre team. Schedule as many of the top ranked teams. Sim through to the end of the season and you should have a losing record and have less than 30% security. Play through the off season and you should be able to keep your job.

An alternate method is to start off by choosing Texas and become the head coach. After that simulate to conference championship week. You most likely will be 0-12 at the end of the conference championship week. You will not qualify for any bowls, so just simulate to the end of the season. The achievement will unlock after the season ends.
