You will meat Wayne pretty early in the story, he will "teach" you how to drift. From my experience, Wayne's story progresses on it's own, meaning I am still in chapter 3 of main story, but already have this achievement, but you do need to night after day events and to day after night events to progress the drift, main or off road missions.
Wayne offers 5 missions-
1. Let it slide (120)
2. Sink or swim (200)
3. Dockside drifter (220)
4. Twilight technique (240) night event
5. Wayne's last wonder (260) night event
In brackets I write the game's recommended car performance index, but you can use any car from what I have seen. I do recommend Mitsubishi Evo X. I use one myself and it is very drift friendly.
