You just need to hit the opposing player hard enough. The best possible place is to the direct right or left from the goalie, when they are battling on the boards.

I assume it would be easier with a big guy like Chara or Pronger but I got it with Jeremy Roenick so take that for what it's worth guys.

I got it with my BAP, overall 70, offensive defenseman. Strength score is in the 60s. Got it while the guy was skating into my zone, checked him hard enough that he flew into the glass...he was about a foot or two off the boards when I hit him, and he just went flying. Just a matter of getting lucky...hit hard, hit often, and eventually it will pop :)

and guys for another hint just try to do it in the winter classic game... so many youtube video was in the winter classic and the achievement popped for me at the first hit i made in the winter classic...

I've played so many games and only focused on throwing hits.. gotten literally every achievement including Gretzky's record but not this.. in fact I've only ever seen the glass break once from a CPU hit

This is one is tricky and random. You are going to try and wait for a CPU player be near or coming along the boards, and you are going to be charging for a hit with the Right Stick to hit the CPU player. You can also try after an icing call as sometimes the CPU will stop near the glass, and then just charge into the CPU. This will take many tries. Even if you have the tallest player, you still might not break the glass. The video below shows an example.
