How to unlock the A True Friend achievement in NieR - Definitive Guide

*Spoilers*

The boss in question here is Kaine when she goes berzerk in the Lost Shrine.

I wouldn't attempt this on the first playthrough. Try it later, when your stats have increased significantly. I did it on my second play, on the Easy difficulty.

While she's on the wall, spam Dark Blast on her, blocking when she shoots the waves of bullets at you. Don't worry about dodging, you'll get knocked back that way and it will slow you down significantly. Eventually, you'll get her down to a sliver of life, at which point you must jump up and hit her with a weapon to stun her.

While stunned (when the timer is counting down), spam Dark Blast on her (don't use melee) until she's finished off.

Achievement pops after any following cutscenes and dialogue segments.

There is a save point before the battle prior to this one, so if you think you just missed the time threshold, reload. You can also just attempt on yet another playthrough, as you'll be even stronger.

Good luck!

i found it quite easy if you use dark hand on her while shes on the wall. It will knock her down immediatly and leave her vulnerable for other attacks. I got this easily without trying on my first playthrough on easy with that method.

i was terrified during my first playthrough that i was blowing past a ton of missable stuff that would screw me over later down the road (call it "the last remnant syndrome"), so this is a relief. thanks dude rain for the solution and follow-up comments. this gets a thumbs up from me.

You can get this on the first playthrough fairly easily. I'm playing on normal and got it, but it helps to have Strong Magic at this point. You can use a strong magic word on Dark Lance, then if you feel that's not enough, use a Drop or Capsule to raise the strength further. Use a full MP bar and fire it off at her when she's not moving and you'll take half a bar off her easily. Contrary to what Weiss says, you can rush her with your weapon (Sunrise for me at that stage with 384 Atk. Anyway, it would be easier to get it on a second playthrough, just saying it's possible on lap one.

could someone please fill me in on the "second playthrough" thing? How do you get your stats to be the same on the second playthrough? do you just select new game and it will automatically be like that?

After you beat the gae, let the credits roll. You will then be prompted to save your game. The save file should have a stamp of the letter "A" on it (meaning you've received ending A.)

Then from the main menu, load that save file. You will start at a point in the story about halfway through, but all of your stats and equipment will have carried over.

Thus, these "Defeat Boss X within Y minutes" achievements actually get easier on later playthroughs.

Hope that helps.

This battle occurs straight after defeating Gretel. Skip all cutscenes, don't worry if you miss this trophy in your first playthrough, it will be much easier to obtain in New Game+

This fight is pretty easy and easily obtainable in your first playthrough. Use your dark lance to knock your enemy off the wall, then get in close and deal some real damage with dark hand or your weapon. If you managed it within a minute the trophy will unlock.
