How to unlock the Combo Master achievement in NieR - Definitive Guide

Insanely easy. In the very, very, very beginning of the game, you're in a courtyard-like area with enemies that keep spawning and spawning and spawning. With the game on easy, you almost never get hit, so just keep slashing until you're at 100 hits. I got it without even trying.

Exact same thing for me. I'd also like to note that there's a lot of time to get it. I messed up and lost a 46 combo and ended up still having enough enemies to get a 123 hit combo to unlock both the 50 & 100 hit combos.

I somehow managed to not get this at any earlier point but discovered a side quest that makes it very easy to get once you reach the second half of the game.

To avoid spoiling much I will just say that once you get the first key fragment you will be able to do some new side quests from Devola in the village tavern (just as always throughout different parts of the game). She will give you a quest that is requested aid from the butler in the manor. This involves a friendly shade in the manor study. All you have to do in this quest is kill it but it won't fight back. It has a shield which is resistant to melee damage but this won't stop you from building up a combo by hacking away at it. Simply just get your weakest 1 handed sword and hack away until you reach a combo of 100.

This guy can take a lot (or at least on your first playthrough) so it is very easy to. To reassure that statement while I got my combo to about 80-90 at first the npc glitched through a bookshelf and moved a fair bit away from me making me start my entire combo again, but I simply just hacked away for another 100 hits and got it.

If you are on your second playthrough and you still haven't gotten this achievement, you can obtain it easily in the final dungeon.

On your way through the final levels, you will encounter an armored boar. As per the story, you will need to take her down once. After that, she continues to regenerate, regardless of how often you take her life down to 0. A green mist exudes from her while she's regenerating.

Instead of running, arm yourself with a Very Light one-handed sword (damage really doesn't matter) and hack away at her without hesitation. You'll be able to easily knock her into submission and continue your chain while she's regenerating. You should reach a 100-chain without even trying.

I specify a second playthrough simply because she's pretty effin' tough on the first.

Achievement should pop right after the chain count breaks 100.

Good luck!

Actually got this pretty early. Whenever you go to the hidden temple or whatever its called, when you go into the upper floors with the rooms of shades, get it down to about 3 or so shades, and just use (Y) to keep knocking them down, it's count for a hit and takes no health away. Takes maybe all of 3 minutes, obviously you'll get the 50-hit this way as well.

In the second half of the game you will eventually be given a quest by Emil's butler, "A Tale of the Study".

An unusual non-aggressive Shade has appeared in the study of the mansion (where you fought the tome). The shade has a strong barrier that reflects all magic and is impervious to all but your strongest weapons. You can contiguously attack it without it dying or retaliating against you and easily get both combo achievements in little over a minute.

To do so, equip a weak weapon like the Nameless Sword and order Kainé and Emil to stay back (3rd option). Then just swing away and keep an eye on it so if it moves you won't loose your rhythm.

Once you have Combo Fanatic in NIER and then this achievement, switch to your strongest weapon (probably the Phoenix Spear at this point) and finish it, then turn in the quest.

Pretty early in the game if you go to the northern plains there will be very large groups of the small shades. Use the weakest weapon you have and start swinging. If you get knocked off your feet, use the evade button to recover from the fall and keep your combo meter going, Shouldn't take you too long. Also this is not the only possible place to do it. I also got a 100 meter when you go under the manor to try and heal Emil's eyes.

ok, I think the best place to do this is "The Aerie, Revisited". It´s part of the main-storyline so you can not miss it. It is the second part of the game where you have to gather these 5 key fragments. I made a video of it, the combo begins at 09:20.

At the beginning of the second part of the game you will go to an underground facility beneath the mansion. After going down the first set of stairs into the second area there is a large square room right before the TA door where a ton of small shades swarm you. Equip a two handed sword and spam the Y button to spin over and over. I got a combo of 156 without even trying.

They respawn, so you can return there at any time during the second half of the game.

In addition to the above, this achievement can also be obtained via the following two side quests:

The Shade Army - at the end.

The Magical Stone - this unlocks the ability to have your fortune told . Taking the free reading results in a fight (also known as the snow fight or dream sequence) where the achievement can be unlocked. You will need to have your fortune told anyway if you want to collect all of the weapons for the following:
NIERWeapons CollectorThe Weapons Collector achievement in NIER worth 67 pointsFind every weapon.

NIERSecret AchievementThe Secret Achievement achievement in NIER worth 79 pointsContinue playing to unlock this secret achievement

Quick update: while farming for items I got a 254 combo during the fortune tellers reading fight without really trying. I was armed with the Kusanagi upgraded to Lv4 and with the game difficulty set to hard.

Simply perform a combo containing at least 100 hits, there are several easy ways to get this trophy:

Prologue: During the prologue, you will fight against hundreds of shades in a small courtyard. Use R2.png to roll to cover up ground if there isn't an enemy close enough to you, although you should be able to achieve this without even trying.

A Tale of Study: Early on in the second part of the game you will be able to partake in a quest called 'A Tale of Study'. To activate the quest, talk to the butler at the mansion, who will tell you about a shade in the study. The shade in question will not attack you and will take several hundred sword strikes before falling, although it will teleport at times, so get in there quickly and hack away.

The Aerie: In the second part of the game, you will receive a mission to visit the chief of the Aerie. During the mission you will be attacked by an army of armoured shades. They take several physical attacks to be defeated, so this is also a good place to obtain the trophy.

NOTE: Magic attacks do not count for the trophy.

This can be done at any point in the game provided there's enough enemies but there's one particular spot that makes this very easy.

During the second part of the main game you will get a quest from a female NPC in The Aerie called The Magical Stone. Complete the quest and you'll be transported to a battle with numerous weak shades. Equip your lowest damage weapon and the 100 hit combo is easy to obtain. If you don't hit 100 and the battle ends, you can try again by speaking to the NPC.

I second this, This is how I got it as I experimented with the magic at the beginning of the game. Otherwise, you can just as easily obtain it by starting a new game and just meleeing non-stop during the prologue.
