I got this after playing the first mission 2 or 3 times.
The artillery helps rack up the kill count if you can get 10 - 12 guys with it.

I'm sure I'll figure it out before responded to, but does anyone know if dying resets the count you just did?

Progressing in the game you will encounter several enemies so don't worry about it, when the hitmark is red it means you killed it while white means you incapacitated it.
