Lifeforce orbs are found by either killing enemies, passive wildlife or destroying certain destructibles.
Simply collect 1,000 of these to unlock this achievement. You do not have to hold them all at once, this count is cumulative.

On a side note to this solution, an easy place to get this AND the gnome grinder achievement is in the Everlight Facility. After getting the Green Hive out, simply return to the Facility as the Overlord with Brown minions, and there's a few spots where gnomes constantly spawn. Kill them and they drop Lifeforce orbs, stay long enough and both achievements are yours
