How to unlock the One Who Has Proven Their Power achievement in Persona 3 Portable - Definitive Guide

Like most people this is probably the link you will find when trying to get this achievement:

https://www.powerpyx.com/persona-3-portable-margaret-boss-gu...

But I got stonewalled when it said you “had” to do 99 in all stats or at least the magic stat. This is simply not true, and I wasted a lot of time trying to futilely farm useless gems for stat boosting.

The second comment on this old gamefaqs page helped me defeat Margaret. I’m pasting it below the link also.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/psp/971508-shin-megami-tensei-...

A quick summary is that you do need at least one Armageddon, and it’s a good idea to be 99 and have the best weapons and armor. But, so long as you have Odin and his high level “Thunder Reign” spell that guarantees shock, then guaranteed criticals by your party members, you can definitely defeat Margaret. WITHOUT having to farm hours of onyx for stat boosting cards. My Odin only had a magic stat of around 75 and the rest were somewhere in that range too.

Original post from Iourko on gamefaqs:

Um, I know that it is probably not very helpful, since the question was asked 4 years ago, but I just wanted to share some of my experience.

I played Persona 3 Portable on Normal difficulty, first playthrough.

I did it on my first try with the following party and equip:
Female MC lvl99 with Barbaric Bracers (dodge magic/phys chance up). "Great" status (dozed off during a lesson at school) ;
Akihiko lvl99 with Barbaric Bracers (dodge magic/phys chance up);
Yukari lvl99 with Tome of the Void (null ailment) *wasn't particularly useful with my strategy*;
Junpei lvl99 with Omega Drive (crit up). "Great" status (it was on the 28th January).
All party members had Armor of Light and Shoes of Light equipped, as well as top fusion weapons.
Remember: no Omnipotent Orb if you have one!

As for the personas I used, I didn't manage to max all S.Links, so I had no Orpheus Telos, but it was perfectly fine. I didn't have Odin and therefore, Thunder Reign skill on other personas too. A decent alternative to this is getting some Thunder Calls (I had 10 or so), since it also shocks your enemy, allowing you to crit hit with rush attacks. I got it as a reward for beating Hermit Door boss as a part of the Vision Quest.

1st Phase when Margaret uses Phys skills I pulled out Chi You (lvl99 with Vorpal Blade-slash, Absorb Strike, Arms Master, Power Charge, Invigorate 3, Pralaya-pierce, Weapons Master, Matarukaja). I had other persona for strike type attack, but I didn't get a chance to use it. Just don't use the same type phys attack as Margaret's last one and it'll be fine.

2nd Phase when she switches to casting ailments and MaDyne/Mudoon/Hamaon I prepared Helel with Unshaken Will, but it wasn't really necessary since I just cast Magic Mirror item (Yukari when not healing) or Makarakarn (MC) almost every turn to keep ailments off the party. So, stock up Magic Mirrors and Homunculus for this Phase. Pretty much used Thunder Call mix raid item (MC only) and crit hit her with the rest of the party.

3rd Phase when Margaret uses MaDyne attacks and you can only use the opposite of her last elemental attack I used Surt for Ragnarok (Fire), Skadi for Niflheim (Ice), Suparna for Garudyne and Ananta for Ziodyne (I didn't manage to fuse Norn or Odin with their top damage elemental attacks).
I recommend you to grab some Bufula/Agilao/Zionga/Garula gems, you don't want your other party members to stand idly. Megidola and Megidoloan will also do.

4th Phase when she casts Power/Mind Charge, Debuffs, Megido and Phys attacks I used my persona to cast Tetrakarn or use Thunder Call item, Yukari was healing, the others dealing damage and debuffing Margaret. I had with me Lucifer with Makarakarn, Tetrakarn and Unshaken Will in case Margaret uses Evil Smile followed by Ghastly Wail (instakill ! )

As for the damage per phase, I didn't have to do 7000+damage per phase, because I had Armageddon (you need only one for Margaret) and you can buy it at the Antique store (exchange for gems). You use it during the 4th Phase when Margaret's HP drops down to 9 999 or less.

1st Phase I dealt 6432 damage, 2nd Phase - 8541, 3rd Phase - 4701, 4th Phase - 2160 damage, then cast Armageddon for 9 999 damage.

I calculated my damage all the way through this battle, but still decided to play it safe and used Armageddon when Margaret had about 8000 Hp left.
Margaret has 30 000 HP and you just need to deal 20 001 damage during the four phases to use Armageddon.

I just want to point out that farming materials is fairly stupid in general, even for Orpheus Telos to use for Theo/Liz later. The Arcade in the mall will have games available daily (second option, first is for Social Stat), one each for Strength, Magic and Agility. You can raise/cap Endurance and Luck through a combination of whatever cards you have (particularly those you get from Mitsuru for free for topping exams), or just by leveling. If Str/Mag/Agi are already capped and the Persona levels up, it will assign the points to the other two by default - no wasting of points happens.

If you're on the last day(s) or whatever, just suck it up and start the New Game Plus. It will ultimately save you an immense amount of time and frustration.

Farming gems is pretty unnecessary. I did it a bit but I ended up with lots of stuff left over.
You can get a lot of the stat up cards by replaying the boss battles.
Based on what I read online, it seems that rewards are once per save file, so you can screw yourself a bit since items don't carry over to NG+.
You can get 10 armageddons by replaying the Hanged Man fight and letting one of the summoned mayas explode.
And you can get 10 infinites by replaying the Strength and Fortune fight and getting someone killed by damage from the roulette wheel.
Note: I read different methods to get these drops online, but these are the ways that worked for me.
That should be enough to complete both Elizabeth/Theo and Margaret.

Also note that the bosses seem to give rewards in order each time you beat them. First a skill card, then a set of king cards, then a set of queen cards, and then repeating drops of specific gems. The infinite and armageddon drops seem to replace the normal drop, but I don't think you get it again (ie, it will move on to the next reward in the sequence). Best to win three times normally first.

during the 2nd phase, Marg has the chance of inflicting enrage on your party, and if MC doesnt get affected but your teammates do, i would suggest not curing them. reason is because they will attack twice, and if you hit marg w/ a thunder reign beforehand, theyll get a critical hit twice (up to 6 CH if the rest of the party is enraged) yes, they can take more damage, but if you're good with defense buffs on your party, they shouldnt take TOO much damage. it makes the fight go a little quicker!

If you thought that Elizabeth/Theodore was a hard boss fight, well, let me tell you, Margaret’s boss fight might be even harder. While in the Elizabeth/Theodore boss fight you had to go in and fight them solo, the Margaret fight is a team effort - meaning that not only do you have to max out the main character, but also your squad as well - that 999 HP and SP is paramount to your survival.

Like we did with Elizabeth, we’ve prepared an in-depth guide to taking on Margaret too, that covers absolutely everything, from how to access the fight, what party to take, what items you need, and what your strategy should be. Like with Elizabeth, don’t forget to stock up on Homunculus as well, which we’ve prepared a guide on the Homunculus locations too.

We go to battle with the most pumped up group. It is better to take Yukari as a healer, Aigis as a buffer and Akihiko as a debuffer. You should also outfit them with accessories that remove their weaknesses. You can get immunity to electricity from Thor, and immunity to ice from Gabrielle.
Margaret constantly changes her attributes, so it is better to hit her with charged olmighty spells such as megidolaon or morning star. There are some other nuances, but if you come properly pumped up, you don’t even have to think about its phases and the allotted number of moves.
