How to unlock the The Nose Doesn't Always Know achievement in Persona 3 Portable - Definitive Guide

When fusing two or three personae together, there is a slight chance that something will go wrong and the fusion will result in a different persona than described. This can actually be kind of fun as you can end up with some interesting skill combinations as a result.

This is completely decided by the game's RNG, so it will take patience. There is a 1/64 chance of a fusion accident for fusing two personae and a 1/32 chance for fusing three.

A fusion accident will not occur for four, five, or six-personae fusions.

If by some chance you make it to the end of your second playthrough without this unlocking (which you need for 100% completion anyhow,) you can try to spam this by buying a bunch of the cheapest monsters and fusing them one after another, hoping for an accident. It's tedious, but that's how RNGs work.

I just hate this achievement, over 160h, 100% compendium and didn't experience a fusion accident

Small tip if you are lvl 99 endgame. Don't hold any fool persona. Fusion accidents often result in fool arcana based on your level. If you are already holding Orpheus Telos f.e. you cannot get him through accidents anymore and in endgame he is the you will probably get.

This took around 3 hours of just dual fusing the low-level persona's before it finally popped. Was slowly going insane! As IX Ulquiorra mentioned, my accident ended up being Orpheus Telos. Not sure if it would do a different one if you have it, but better to be safe I'd imagine. I did this right as I was prepping for the Margret/Elizabeth fights so was max level myself.

That said, I remember when I played through FES originally, I had multiple fusions through my 100-ish hour playthrough, so definitely very RNG!

This is perhaps the most annoying achievement in the Persona series. One they’ve seemingly brought across from the Persona 4 Golden Vita trophy list. It’s pure luck, this one. A fusion accident occurs when you’re trying to fuse Personas together, to make another Persona, and you don’t get the result you tried to get. There is a 1 in 64 chance to get a fusion accident with a fusion involving 2 Personas, and a 1 in 32 chance with those involving 3. There’s nothing you can do to help this, it’ll just happen at some point. For me, it didn’t happen until about the 80th hour, when my Compendium was at 50% full. For some people it happens on the first try. It’s pure potluck.

You can, of course, purposely fuse and fuse and fuse until this happens, just be prepared to have a lot of yen handy. Just make a save beforehand as well, in case you spend millions of yen on a really crappy Persona that you don’t want. The achievement and the Persona is the only reward for getting a fusion, so reloading after you’ve got one this way won’t change anything.
