How to unlock the Overclocker achievement in Portal 2 - Definitive Guide

Chapter 3 - Chamber 10

Learn the level by doing it a few times at a regular pace, then try and follow the video as best as you can, and you should have no problem getting this achievements in a few tries. Can easily be done with 5 seconds to spare.

The timer begins when you exit the elevator, and stops once the cube touches the pad, unlocking the achievement if done quickly enough.

Note: With the new update, you can get this achievement in Challenge Mode on "The Return: Ricochet"

Does anyone know when the timer for this starts? I made a save at the Level 10 sign and then restarted from there after I learned the map. I did it several times last night well under the 70 seconds and the achievement did not pop. The only thing I can think of is that the timer starts when you get off the elevator and I need to go back further and start over. I will try it tonight and let you know.

I thought it starts when the door to the level opens, but like I stated in my video, I did it in 68 seconds (2 seconds under time) from the when the door of the elevator started to open. Just beat the game, and you'll be able to select chapter 3, and play this level again, from the start.

If you miss this during the playthrough you can unlock it during the challenge mode level The Return - Richochet. The timer will show about 5 seconds at the start so as long as you place the block on the button before 1:15 it should be fine.

I got it in Challenge Mode with a time of 1:21, so I am guessing that the time running up the stairs doesn't count.

Downvoted because you don't mention that it is "The Return: Ricochet." in Challenge Mode. Please make that change (and notify -ers) and I'll change my vote.

EDIT: Thumbs up as promised :)

Took me a few tries to get the routine down, but I managed to get it on my third try. Thanks a bunch!

Just got it. I wondered if pausing affected it but it doesn't. My mistake was most likely waiting by the elevator at the start of the level.

The timer definitely starts at the test chamber door, not the elevator. I started a timer right as I walked through the chamber door, and I finished in 1:08, 2 seconds short of the target time. The walk from the elevator to the door is way more than 2 seconds, so there's no way timing starts back there.

Beat the game and went back through the first chambers starting at #1. When I did Chamber 10 the first time it did not pop. Loaded last save and it had me getting off the elevator at Chamber 10. Did it again and it popped. Thus, I believe the timer starts when the elevator doors open to the chamber. Don't dawdle in the foyer!!

If this is actually 70 seconds, this most definitely does NOT start when the elevator opens, but when you enter the room. Even on the Rooster Teeth video, they left the elevator at 0:12, entered the room at 0:19, and hit the pad at 1:28. If it was the elevator, that would be 77 seconds. It has to be entering the room.

I got mine 68 seconds after I entered the room, and it takes 7 seconds to get there, so that would be 75 seconds...over time.

I did it a bit differently. My run was hardly perfect, but I think the method is a bit quicker. One issue is that the discouragement redirection cube sometimes falls down after it's launched. That's why I paused and waited to see what it does.

Sorry about the sound. I'm not sure what happened.

No problem. I was having trouble do it quick enough the standard way too. It's the reason I figured there must be a faster way and came up with this. You can probably tell from the video that I'm hardly the "leet-sniper" myself, but this route leaves you a little more room for error.

Thanks for posting this alternative method. I followed this method and despite the discouragement cube falling, still completed it in time for the achievement!

What did you actually do at 0:26? It looks to me that you're aiming for the wall near the button that releases the redirection cube, andthen shot a blue there. I tried it, but the blue actually appeared right beside the orange everytime when I did so.

PS: I already got the achievement. I was just trying to see if this alternative works.

Thanks!

@neeker75: What he did was walked partway through the portal, just enough that he can shoot out of it while still standing in it. You can usually tell you're far enough out by the orange showing in your screen (from walking through the portal) turning to blue (or vice-versa if you're going from blue to orange.)

I forgot to add that this was a great method. :) I prefer shortcuts over speed, so I didn't even bother trying the other methods when I saw this one.

Thanks for this method. Worked for me. I could not get it using the other method.

Worked for me on my 5th try or so in the Ricochet challenge level, of course this is after not having played the game for a few months. There are two easy placs to screw up: shooting the blue shortcut portal (make sure the orange one you peek out of turns blue signaling you're out far enough before you shoot) and the drop for the deflecting cube (it sometimes does not land on the ledge and you need to carry it up). I also saw some glitchy behavior picking up the weighted cube.

In Challenge Mode, Chapter 3: Test Chamber 10 is The Return: Ricochet. You can't make intermediate saves in Challenge Mode, but you can get right to it without having to do Test Chamber 9.

Chapter 3: The Return. Test Chamber 10.

This achievement is easier than it sounds. The best way to do this is to practice the course over and over until you know it off by heart and complete it as fast as you can. Or you can watch the video on how to do this.

In Chapter 3, GLaDOS Test Chamber 10 you will have to complete the puzzle within 70 seconds. Ensure you make a save right when you get off the elevator in case you need to retry and practice the puzzle. This chamber involves redirecting lasers with cubes, portals and utilizing the aerial faith plates. Follow the puzzle solution I have shown to complete the chamber in the allocated time allowed and this will unlock upon opening the door to the exit.

Chapter 3 <RETURN> Test 10

Go through the steps slowly 2-3 times first to build muscle memory.

Immediately step onto the air panel of faith (trampoline). While in the laser, turn towards the trampoline, place the blue portal on top of the right wall, and the yellow portal below you. Jump into the portal and take the cube. Release the cube into the hole, immediately jump after it, and quickly place the blue portal below you. Flying out of the yellow portal, grab the cube and move forward to get on the ledge with the laser. Place the cube on the left on the ledge, blocking the laser. Run to the alarm. Press the button, and while the lens is flying towards you, place the blue portal on the small panel on the opposite wall from the switch to the right at the laser level, and place the yellow portal on the panel behind the switch. Along your route, a lens will fly to you, grab it in flight, and fall to a lower level, in the direction opposite to your flight. Turn around in flight, place the lens perpendicular to the laser towards the blue portal, so that the laser immediately hits the slot on the level above. Take the cube and run to the trampoline. On the last wall-mounted trampoline, you need to be facing towards the exit, and you need to move to the right to immediately get to the big red key. If you manage to hit the red key along with the cube within 70 seconds, the achievement will unlock.
