no problem I just finished the full 1,000. Glad these guides are getting made instead of having to go through a lot of old youtube videos and quake fandom pages to find what I need.

I found how to get to the other secret level(The forgotten castle) it Isn't tied to an achievement like the other one(House of Doom) though

So you are saying of the two secret entrances only this one will pop the achievement?

I went through the wrong portal.

You go down and straight and have the wrong exit in front of you. The secret exit is to the right of it. Not west.

Yeah, this episode is 5 years old. I can confirm, the first secret level that can be found in E5M3, The Dark Days, which leads to The Forgotten Castle doesn't unlock this.

The exit you want to use for this achievement is the one with the med pack in front of it.

Quake seems to be buggy for a lot of people. I had two that took a couple tries to pop.
Just work on another achievement, and come back and try this one again.

Look on the right side of the page. a bunch of people won achievement on the 30th of November and on, dec 3rd, and today.

do you have an xbox? Maybe try to at least load your game on there and then come back to the PC. Or try to unlock on the box version.

Yeah I see those recent unlocks, which is why I don't understand whats wrong on my end.

Tried it on Xbox this morning and nothing. Did it through level select on there running through the level as normal, not sure if that matters or not. Have a quick save right in front of the exit.

I'd appreciate it if someone who unlocked it can tell me if that line shows up in the command menu saying the achievement name and number.

Just tried the cloud version with a legit run through of the level and no luck there either. It won't unlock for me on other accounts either, whether console or PC. The alt account got the secret area achievement upon finding the secret exit too.

I'm really stumped here. The achievement clearly isn't broken for everyone, yet I can't get it to work across multiple installs on different hardware with different accounts.

Same issue as the above, it’s the Only achievement I’m struggling with, just not unlocking for me. Only tried on PC currently. Done it around 15 times, tried re-installing, trying clearing all saves on Xbox and PC, made sure I did sv_cheats 0 BEFORE getting the 'secret run found' prompt or entering portal after fresh save clear...nothing.

UPDATE: Yep, think this has completely bugged on me. Tried it at as per solution, at different difficulties, and semi-properly on PC (used cheats, but went through the level properly otherwise- collecting keys, getting block to move, ensuring sv_cheats 0 [off] was set before 'hidden rune gate' prompt and/or exiting through secret door) and nothing either. Last achievement and at a loss regarding what to do now. Even cleared all my saves, and that hasn't helped either.

May try legit on Xbox...if I'm good enough. Otherwise, this one will be stuck at 98% for me.

Don't bother doing it on console, I just did it fully legit on Xbox and nothing. Started as a new game and did the whole episode up to map 6.

In the menu, if you click on news it states that an Update 2 was released that added horde mode. I did some googling and this was released on Dec 3. I think this update broke the achievement. We need to start hounding Bethesda to fix this.

This checks out, agree this is likely unobtainable. I'm in the UK, and I can see the last person to unlock this on TA unlocked it on Dec 4th (Canada). Although 1 day ahead, if you think about it, I'm going to be 5-8 hours ahead of the US/Canada time-zone wise, so the unlock was likely Dec 3 in-line with the update and just happened to fall after relative 0:00 UK time, so appears for me as Dec 4. Please check if it is Dec 3 for you if you're North American. Still, seems to much of a co-incidence right now, as I started the game today and every other achievement unlocked perfectly fine in 2 sessions.

Ticket issued. Annoyingly, they are telling me to re-file as feedback, which isn't an option for the Quake product as it is for other game products on https://help.bethesda.net

I noticed that it would not unlock on my Xbox on Saturday (Dec 4). After trying multiple times, it would not unlock.

I was able to do it through Win10, which was not updated (update is in the list on the MS Store). Of course, once I update the Win10 version, I’ll have no idea if the issue is there as I already unlocked it.

I would suggest people hold off on updating Win10 version. No idea if this will affect other achievements.

Discontinued means it was available and is not anymore, there can be a number of reasons for that including broken by an update. It doesn't mean it will never be available again.

@Tei Tenga I think if someone happens to not update the game, they can still unlock this on PC. For anyone who starts it from now, or has already updated, nothing you can do. Xbox obviously nothing you can do, either. I started this after December 4th, so I was out of luck from the start. Reached out to that person to see if they did anything, but its likely they just got lucky and didn't update Quake.

I can’t remember if I have automatic updates turned on. I’ll check this evening and see. Maybe I’ll be able to confirm as well.

It has been flagged, and they probably got it by not updating their game. Maybe they have it offline or set not to autoupdate.

Probably been tried but what about clearing cache, playing offline, earning it, then reconnecting and updating? Just spitballin really, this has me seriously irritated lol.

Sad that this is broken. Hopefully they fix it soon.

After all the quicksaves and quickloads and grenades to to face, this is the achievement that's gonna trip me up. Boo.

Perhaps I don't understand the differences between "discontinued" and "partly discontinued", but shouldn't this be flagged as "partly discontinued"?

For instance, I currently have version 1.0.4125.0 installed on my Xbox from back on 30 August 2021. Couldn't I unlock this while offline (to avoid the update)? Thanks for any clarification.

For comparison, my PC has version 1.0.4831.0 installed. For some reason games are still updated even though I have auto-update disabled. :(

To the surprise of no one, no news from Bethesda.

Can confirm (less surprisingly) same issue on PlayStation 4/5.

How often do they update this game? It was an update last month that broke the achievement, so they’re still supporting the game in some capacity.

@GR34TD3STR0Y3R most of the Wolfenstien games have issues on PC and Machine games is terrible at addressing them. But this is done by Id, the same studio that does Doom, who have a much better track record of giving games long term support and fixes issues like this.

I’m pretty sure it was original game done by id (and original expansions done by companies whose names I don’t remember), anniversary expansions done by MachineGames, and remaster by Nightdive. I don’t know Nightdive’s track record with these things, so who knows what’ll happen. Hopefully it’ll be fixed, have a save ready for it.

Bethesda were tone deaf in a recent tweet. Tried the ticket route a couple of times and nothing. As said above, genuine scepticism this will ever be fixed.

I am genuinely amazed that they keep on selling a broken game that cannot be completed and yet nobody even mentions that fact in the reviews (I'd rather expect a review bombing right after the update) anywhere. Especially since the fix seems to be really easy, as people on some of the platforms (e.g. Steam) found a workaround days after the update. My guess would be they'll update this after taking it down from gamepass, so the people that want to have it completed have to buy it :/

Well, luckily I haven't started this yet, so it looks like I won't be. Damn worthless developers.

Patch 1.06 didn't fix it. 2 months and counting...

We need to make some noise so this can be fixed next patch. They seem to do one every 2 months (Update 1 in week 1 of Oct, Update 2 in week 1 of Dec, Update 3 in mid Feb.)

I know that a fix is likely, and thanks to those who've spoken with Bethesda, but man 4 months is not good enough when Indies are patching unobtainables in a week. Zero excuse past a month for me.

I got the notification that the console had an update, but did not see anything on the Windows side of things... so I did a reboot on my PC and it was there. FINALLY have this game completed.

Confirmed, finally fixed! I was able to load a save I had right before the secret door, very quick pop.

Happily confirming it is fixed for me, as well.

Just gonna put it out here now so no-one wastes a bit of time, have already done a flag submission to remove the Discontinued flag and replace it with its normal flags. Nice to see you can finally complete "Quake" again.

It seems last update broke all the achievements at least on PC version.
When I met the condition to unlock an achievement I get this :

Edit : Seems the achievement unlocked after a few minutes, after doing this mission... I don't know when since I did not get a notification but kind of ~buggy imo

If you are looking at the main exit and consider that to be north, turn 90 degrees to your left, or to the east, for the secret exist.

The new update is live on Steam. We'll probably get it soon on Xbox/Windows Store too. Hopefully this achievement is fixed.

Fixed a bug in which the House of Doom achievement was not unlocking when finding the secret level in Dimension of the Past

Maybe I got turned around when flying around. I tried to confirm my the orientation. Thanks for the clarification.

It's the right one if you're coming from the starting position and the left one if you're standing on the path after turning off noclip. That should be clear enough for anyone reading the comments figuring out which gate to go through.

I've tried this at least 50 times now and it refuses to pop. I've restarted my PC and reinstalled the game multiple times.

I noticed that in the command menu whenever the unlock conditions are met for an achievement, there's a line that reads "Player satisfied conditions for achievement 'ACHIEVEMENT NAME'. This line shows up even if the achievement has been unlocked already.

For example, finding a secret area produces the line "Player satisfied conditions for achievement 'ACH_FIND_SECRET'. You can trigger this by landing in front of the exit for this achievement since that counts as a secret area, might have to walk around the health pack to trigger it.

But when I exit through the secret exit, there's no line for this achievement. It's as if the code is not checking for the conditions of this unlock.

Anyone unlock this on PC recently? Or can someone load up their game and just meet the conditions for this achievement and tell me if the correct line shows up? I've tried everything I can think of.

After explaining that there is a group of us on true achievements having the same problem, trying for hours and no one unlocking the achievement since the update. I got a response from Bethesda, today and it was a little disappointing. They said everything from, sign in/out again, check that you’re connected to the Internet and make sure you’re meeting the criteria for the achievement… felt a little belittling, anyways. I responded with saying, all of those are not the problem as I got 34 of the 35 achievements before and after the bug the same day and asked if the message for the devs to investigate “update 2” bugging “The House of Doom” achievement could be passed on. We will await a response…

What l received from Bethesda

"I understand you're experiencing issues with an achievement in Quake. Please understand that we at Bethesda Customer Support are not able to grant achievements to your account. The only piece of troubleshooting we can recommend is that you attempt to complete the achievement again to see if it will unlock for you.

I've gone ahead and passed your feedback along to the development team manually. They will look into your ticket and hopefully resolve the issue in a future update to the game. Please note that you will not receive a response from the development team."

Had another advisor randomly advise me they’ve also passed it on, so fingers crossed they’ll notice with any luck.

"Discontinued" the requirements are no longer possible or the achievement will not unlock. "Partly Discontinued" means that some of the requirements can not be met but others can.

So for example Darksiders II has an achievement for sending a gift to another player, the servers to do that though have been shut down so the achievement is marked "Discontinued". It also has another achievement for getting all the other achievements in the game.

If you got the gifting one before the server was shut down you can get the one for getting all the others so it is marked "Partly Discontinued"

This has a single requirement that is no longer possible so it is marked as "Discontinued"

So, I won't be surprised if this NEVER gets fixed. I just started playing Wolfenstein II again (I played on Steam the first time). I started the DLC and the game crashed. Deja Vu?! Sure enough, I google it, and there is a game crashing bug in the first DLC that happens to THOUSANDS of players. You simply can not play the first episode, AMD, Nvidia. Its been an issue since 2017, its 2022 and the game-breaking bug was NEVER addressed.

Here is a steam forum talking about the bug with posts dating 4 years all the way up to 2021, and I had the bug two days ago.
