How to unlock the General of the Army achievement in R.U.S.E. - Definitive Guide

To see a full video guide for the hardest difficulty click on the following link: http://www.youtube.com/user/uimasterskill#grid/user/A122B0FF.... ALL CREDIT FOR THE VIDEOS GOES TO uimasterskill's! I PLAYED NO ROLE WHATSOEVER IN THE MAIKING OF HIS VIDEOS!

However, I disagree on it's method for the final mission, which is also the hardest. Most of the guides on the internet either use the Americans (like the guide above does) or the Germans. I, however, find using the French the easiest.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When I mention directions in this guide I am refering to the default direction of the game camera. The dirction will be the way it would be if your TV was a compass. ie: east = right, west = left, ect. If you change the game camera, remember to return it to the original position in order to follow the guide.

When you first start, you are going to capture the only 2 supply depots on the map, right next to your base. DO NOT GET A ADMIN BUILDING! Instead, get the Maginot bunker selected and place it in the western green allied base, to the right of the barracks and down and left of the airport. Place a Maginot in the southern base to the right of the barracks and above the airport. In the base north east of your starting position, place a Maginot bunker above both airports, and one below the Secondary HQ.

For the rest of the mission automatically blitz the region with your HQ when it is about to run out (this guide will no longer mention it and will presume you have done so). In the northern region (the area with the forests and two ways around it) allign your AT guns, one in the western part of the forest (near the "tip"), and one in the east. Put your armored recon in the center of the forest and move your tanks a little south. In the isolated regions move your tanks to the northern zone.

When you have 40 resources build two 20 resource bunkers, send one to the east opening of the northern zone, and send the other to the west opening. When you have 60 resources, build an airport. Once you get 25 resources, build a recon and send it to the north (as with to blitz, you should just automaticly build another whenever it is destroyed).

You should then get a huge resource boost. Build a Maginot bunker in the western part of the northern zone, and one in the eastern part of the northern zone. Send one 20 resouce bunker to the secondary HQ west of where your HQ is. When you can afford to, send one 20 resource bunker west of your HQ, below your HQ, and one east of your HQ.

From here on out just spam 20 and 40 resource bunkers in the northern zone. The north shouldn't be as strong as normal since they will not capture the secondary headquarters and airports blocked by the magnot bunkers even after they destroy them. When your northern zone gets full, put AT guns in the forest. When you have 5 or 6 AT guns on each side, start getting fighter bombers and use them as you see fit (make sure you don't accidently max out with fighter bombers if your recon is destroyed unless you have another airport built).

When the game tells you to protect your secondary line, bring a recon and some fighter bombers to destroy the units. Keep the other units out of the tanks' way.

When you get the nuclear long tom, send it north east to your main base. Get it in range of the enemy's HQ (brink some AT guns and fighter bombers as an escort) and destroy it. The achievment should pop once the cutscene ends.

If this method doesn't work for you for whatever reason, you can try the U.S. method in the videos below (from the video guide mentioned at the beginning of the guide) or go to http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/r-u-s-e/74913-mission-23-wa... for the German method. I TAKE NO CREDIT WHATSOEVER FOR THE GUIDE ON PS3 TROPHIES! ALL CREDIT GOES TO Eagle Soars!

Please comment and tell me what I can to improve my solution. I am always open to suggestions.

Note that the videos below are of the American method.

For me the most difficult battle was nr 17 The Siege of Bastogne.

I watched the method by uimasterskill and tried that one. I won the battle but lost almost all of my units and my base was about to be destroyed. I wouldnt last 10 seconds longer. I've replayed this mission with few tactical adjustments, which helped a lot so i thought ill share my strategy.

At the begining do as uimaster does. Retreat artillery to woods near town (do not leave the one on the far right, send it to the woods near your base; south of city). Use rangers as their guard. Leave Chaffees in front of bastogne (very close to it) send them four Shermans. Place Barracks and Anti-Air/Artillery Base. Upgrade Rangers. Send about 5 units in two townsquares (one on right and one on left; 4-5 units each). Send 4 units into woods on the left bottom exit of your base (near airport, where tanks will try to flank you). Two units of artillery trucks where uimaster places them (close south of the city). Place two Anti-Tank Bunkers one near bootom left airport and one somewhere south from your main base (about 3 buildings lenght). And place 3 Shermans near the woods right to the city (where your artillery stands). At first you may reach your units limit but wait till enemy destroys your Anti-Infantry Bunkers. When airplanes become available create one of those anti-air trucks (send it near the anti-air cannons). Create Grasshoper plane and 3 fighter bombers (if youll reach your units limit, let the enemy destroy your tanks (Shermans and Chaffees). Controlling your air units wisely should be enough to keep your enemies at bay. Every time your aircraft is shot down, quickly replace them. Use mainly blitz and when its possible fanaticism.

This way Germans didn't even reached my town, but even if they did they'd be shot dead by rangers squad. Hope this helps and good luck :)

just wanted to add that the three difficulty achievements stack. I looked it up on another site since I didn't see it here so hopefully this saves some time for someone else.

While I agree that the battle of the Bulge missions are the hardest missions on normal difficulty, the last mission is the hardest mission is the hardest on hard difficulty (at least it seemed that way to me).

Yep you were right. Although my tactics had few flaws in last mission I almost did not made it till the end. Bastogne was difficult but with proper strategy it was a pice of cake and with all honesty I cannot say the same about the last mission. Even with good tactics its still hard to win it.

The second to last mission gave me hell of a trouble. You have to anticipate everything and be EXTREMELY fast. As to me, the hardest with Bastogne.

For the final mission, I really find the Germans to be the most appropriate faction. They have an impressive defensive power which is really useful in this case.

I took the advice above and (playing as Germans though) placed Siegfriend bunkers guarding the 3 green bases from airborne takeover. First one to di is the one to your northwest, blitz that one quickly. The one to the northeast of your base should be camouflaged if necessary as my bunker got targeted by fighter bombers before airborne attempted to takeover. Without these bases in enemy hands the game was very easy, just fighting on one front.

The secondary base I took another persons advice and camouflaged + radio silenced the whole lot so that the enemy passed on by. You may need to pull units back as there is a recon with that group (this group spawns each time is it destroyed btw).

Just a small addition to uimasterskills video, the Nuclear Long Tom can be used on enemies. He is using a lot of infantry to clear out the village and forests during the escort however if you leave the bulk of your force with the Long Tom and send one infantry unit to smoke out the hidden units you can use the long tom to obliterate those units. It is a one shot kill.

Perhaps this is obvious to some but I missed it on my first run through.

Hope this helps! You can also gain some points by nuking the bases across the water to the right of where the Long Tom is dropped in.
