How to unlock the It's a Trap! achievement in Record of Agarest War Zero - Definitive Guide

You can't start capturing monster until you have reached the town of Rue Trark. Thats when the Monster Guild becomes first avaiablle.

You can get the Capture ability by:
-Completing title 15 : Muscle Flexer which requires you to deal over 5K total damage.
-You can purchase Essential Arts 4 from the adventures guild which makes it avaliable to research for
1 Sleep Guard, 1 Poison Guard, 1 Paralysis Guard
-Or you can purchase it in a pack off the Xbox Market place for 80 points I believe.

Once it's researched it can be purchased at the Item Shop.
Capture has to be equiped to a dark slot so you can replace Black Mist for it or purchase the Demonic Scythe from the Adventures Guild for 90 TP.

In order to capture a monster you have to take it's health down to 5% or less.

- An example is a monster with 472 health, you will have to take them down to 23 or less.

It might take a couple turns to capture a monster but stick with it. Since capture take 15 AP you might have to risk your ranking to capture a monster.

I hope this helps!

as a side note: you don't actually have to capture the monster yourself. if you are auto-battling and one of your characters has the capture ability then they may actually unlock this achievement for you while your grinding.

Using merciful strike to drop enemies to 1 hp can speed this up. Also, pairing Eugene, once he attains the hunter skill at level 9, with the character doing the capturing increases your chances.

Capturing a monster requires the Capture skill. Capture is a darkness skill, which means you'll need a character with a darkness skill slot to use it. You may only capture a monster when its HP count is 5% of its maximum or lower.

The easiest way to obtain "Capture" is by getting an early title in guild.

Merciful Strike is a good way to ensure that you don't kill the enemy you're trying to capture when lowering its HP. Merciful Strike does the normal damage of an 8 AP physical attack, but leaves the enemy with 1 HP if it otherwise would have killed it.

To capture a monster you must first obtain the () Capture skill. After defeating the first quest area at "Trizon Fortress" you will have access to facilities in towns such as: Item Shop, Blacksmith, Adventurer's Guild and Infirmary. In the Adventurer's Guild you can research the Capture skill by trading in 4000 Gold and the following material items:

  • Sleep Guard
  • Posion Guard
  • Paralysis Guard

Alternatively you can also receive the skill through one of your early titles "15:Muscle Flexer" (Deal over 5k total damage). Now to capture a monster you must weaken a monster to a VERY low percentage of its health because it's hard to weaken a monster without killing it a good skill which acts as a sidekick to Capture would be () Merciful Strike which will NOT kill an enemy if it were to deal more damage than its current HP however it will stop at 1 HP which should be perfect for capturing. This can be researched at the Adventurer's Guild for 1500 Gold and by trading in the following materials (skills):

Double Edge
Power Attack
Rush
Trick Hit

Alternatively you can also receive Merciful Strike from an early title "9: Beginner" (Win 10 Battles). Using these two together will easily net you captures throughout your game. Also keep in mind that the level of your LUK also influences the success rate of your captures. For more information in regards to capturing monsters please refer to the following link:
