The S powerups give you more ships
The L is a laser which makes things easier. If you get hit you lose it
If you keep the laser and get another you'll have a double laser which can destroy the boss quick

If you kill yourself on the first eyeball it will drop a power up for double guns; making the first half of level 1 relatively easy. During a wave of eyeballs that swarm at you aim for the middle; I had a laser drop every time and a second laser after the big skull which made the rest of the level significantly easier.
Use your overload on the first boss for an easy win and to keep your weapons for level 2. This one is more just about learning the patterns, don’t have many tips for this one but beating the second stage of the boss got me just over 80k

Definitely make sure you save overload the boss fights are so easy when you have it

Pro tip: Remember to spam the L trigger to slow down when necessary, and don't worry if you lose both lasers to the swarm- just make sure you have enough of the P power pickups and a full overload bar. Overload also gives the normal cannon a real punch, and it killed the second boss even faster than the dual lasers! Even with the lasers I couldn't previously kill it quickly enough.
