How to unlock the Not Waiting to Exhale achievement in Resident Evil - Definitive Guide

IMPORTANT: If you leave the area, it is considered a void on the achievement. Yawn must retreat to get the achievement.

Jill Tactics

Chris Tactics

If you're bitten, you'll need to retrieve some serum from the area shown on your map, don't waste a First Aid Spray, they don't cure poison.

Tips for Facing Yawn

- If you have the Grenade Launcher and Acid Rounds, they make quick work of Yawn, taking 3-4 direct hits to make him retreat. (Jill Only)

- First Aid Spray won't cure poison, but is helpful to top off your health while heading to the infirmary.

- Yawn will never* attack Richard, if you saved him, so letting him attack Yawn can save you ammo. (Jill Only)

- You can easily knife his tail and keep following it in a circle to (eventually) defeat him without wasting much/any ammo. Be sure to save if you're going to try this.

- Don't forget to grab the gun if you saved Richard. (Jill Only)

You may want to save prior in case the achievement doesn't unlock.

Thanks to MXR and Raezie for their input to this solution.

After beating the game and playing again on 'once again' the achievement still hasn't unlocked. I saved Richard too, and killed the snake with the rocket launcher (who retreated).

Edit: I reloaded the save, killed the snake again walked around the room a few moments and it DID unlock, for those that may have this same issue happen to them.

The requirements to get the "Fizz" cutscene with Barry is to have him save you when getting the shotgun, then when you unlock the sword key door upstairs near where you see Richard, the one that brings you back to the 2nd floor of the main hall it will trigger.

You'll find Yawn for the first time in a locked room inside the Mansion. On an easy difficulty it took a few blasts with the shotgun to keep the giant snake at bay before he hastily retreats to fight another day.

Just remember to keep moving or you'll end up getting hit, which results in you having to switch to Rebecca to go and find a serum to heal Chris. (If you don't complete this task quickly though I think Chris may die causing you to have to start from your last save point.)

If you're going through the game quickly or trying to complete a speed run, you can easily avoid the snake, collect the item from the back of the room and escape through the door you came through, but if you're trophy hunting, you gotta attack!

(Missable) This trophy can be earned by either character and on any difficulty. Once you obtain the Shield Key you can go encounter Yawn in the attic; this is a storyline requirement as one of the Death Masks is in the room. You do not need to fight Yawn, you can simply grab the mask and leave; however, to earn this trophy you must deal enough damage to Yawn to make it retreat to earn this trophy. If you’re playing as Jill and have saved Richard he will join you for half of the battle, dealing damage until Yawn finishes him off, but requiring you to deal the rest of the damage.

MISSABLE!

You MUST defeat Yawn on your first encounter. Escaping will not award you the achievement, the Snake must retreat through the roof in order for the achievement to unlock.

The best method, depending on your character, is to run around the columns while avoiding the Snake and firing off rounds at it. If you're Jill, you have the added support of Richard if you saved him with the Serum (at least until the "fake-death" midway through the fight). Just keep blasting him with the Shotgun and/or Grenade Launcher (if Jill) until the Snake retreats.

The achievement will unlock afterwards.
