How to unlock the Passion for Fashion achievement in Resident Evil - Definitive Guide

This is how I unlocked the achievement and I only played as JILL VALENTINE so far:

1. Normal difficulty playthrough ("Like climbing a mountain" from the main menu)
2. Normal+ playthrough (New Game Plus) ("Once Again..." from the main menu)
3. Real Survival Mode playthrough
4. Invisible Enemy Mode playthrough

Everything of course on the same save-file and that's also the order I played the game.

Additional notes:

-Both RESIDENT EVIL 5 - BSAA outfits for each character are available from the beginning.

-Complete the game once with Jill on any difficulty to unlock Jill's ARMY outfit.
-Complete the game a second time (same save-file NG+) with her to unlock Jill's RESIDENT EVIL 3 outfit.

-*Complete the game once with Chris on any difficulty to unlock Chris' THE MEXICAN outfit.
-*Complete the game a second time (same save-file NG+) with him to unlock Chris' ALTERNATE S.T.A.R.S. uniform.

*As I stated on the top that's how I unlocked them, never played with Chris Redfield. So either play it four times with Jill Valentine or twice with her on twice with Chris. Just make sure IT'S ALWAYS ON THE SAME SAVE-FILE!!!

If you guys find a faster/different way to unlock this let me know. Hope this helps! wave

Do you have any costume info? Like after you beat the game on normal what does it give you?

1. Jill / Normal / Knife Only / sub-3 hour Speed Run / Bad End
2. Chris / Real Survival (Automatic Hard) / Good End / Save Rebecca from Hunter
3. Jill / Invisible Enemy / Good End / Nook & Cranny (100% Map Exploration)
4. Chris / Once Again (Infinite Rocket Launcher) / Bad End / No Saving

The playthroughs can be mixed and matched any way you want, but it should be minimum 4 playthroughs.

@hella rad babe: Well that two BSAA costumes for each character from RE5 are already available from the beginnig. The others are rewarded for completening the game twice. I will update the solution! wink

@VixyNyan: Thanks for posting your playthroughs. You're correct too but as I said I never ever played with Chris Redfield and unlocked the achievement after my Invisible Enemy Mode run with Jill Valentine, that was the fourth playthrough!

Hey, thanks a lot for replying about the costumes! That's the main thing I wanted to know about, being pretty while slaying zombies is the best part about RE! I better hurry up and finish the game now!

I just have a question because this whole "on the same save file" thing confuses me. I played my first playthrough with Chris and completed it (i;e: I have a clear save). Now the part that confuses me is that I think (can't quite remember) from the menu after that, that I loaded the cleared save, which took me to the menu and chose to play again with Jill. Now, if I wanted to keep everything, like costumes for example, did I do the wrong thing? (should I have clicked on "once again").

I want to get the achievement for getting all the costumes but i'm not really sure if there is a difference between loading a cleared save and clicking "once again" from the menu.

I disliked the guide just because you're being patronizing toward Hobotheclown92 and I wanted you to know. The guide isn't quite clear so the comment of Hobo is perfectly legitimate.

Maybe this will help someone with the same issues:

I played my 2nd run with Jill on another save. After realizing that you have to do "once again" on a completed save game (4 times) I had the same problem as
@wannabe1993
and the "Passion for Fashion" achievement showed me a 60% progress. But I had just one more costume to go for. So I have just overwritten all my savegames of my accidental second Jill run and at the end it popped for me.

If it says once again at the main menu then that means your cleared save is already loaded. If it doesn’t say once again at the main menu then just go load your cleared save and it will bring you back to the main menu and it says once again

The comments here about saves are incredibly confusing. For anyone else that comes here and starts to panic because it says 60% when you only have one more playthrough/outfit to get, it's because the 80%-100% are automatically calculated based on two alternative costumes that come within software version (as noted in the other solution on TA). So it will jump from 60% to 100% on the fourth playthrough. Coming to read these comments from other people talking about which save to load, yada yada, is a nightmare and only confuses people.

Basically just keep playing all your playthroughs as normal and the achievement will unlock.

Fair warning to anyone going for this to make absolutely sure all of the playthroughs are on the same file and loaded. I learned the hard way and unlocked all of the costumes but the tracker was stuck at 80%. It took an additional 4 playthroughs (2 Chris, 2 Jill) on a new save file for it to pop finally. My unfortunate mistake was not loading the cleared files and immediately going into Invisible Enemy/Real Survival.

Overall, I must've played through the game 10 times using both characters on the same save and it didn't unlock. I just got it tonight after deleting my save file (from the system and the cloud), ran through the game once as Jill on the hardest of the 3 difficulties it gives you (can't remember them) and boom, unlocked. Also saved both Barry and Chris in under 2.5hrs. Not sure if that makes a difference for it

So to clarify about the saves.

Once a game is cleared, you start once again, and once you save you override the Cleared Game save?

I need to be sure because I’ve scrubbed this on my Xbox 360 run.

@Hobotheclown92: First off please stop the spam comments here, second I mentioned it already in my solution to make sure using the same save-file, I can't help you if you won't follow those easy steps. Just write it down next time which save-file you already unlocked the first set of costumes, then use that exact same-file again. roll Obviously if you use a different file you have to start all over again.

Also the only difference between "once again" and "cleared save" is if you have two different cleared save-files. Again make sure what costumes you have unlocked and WRITE THAT save-file down and only use that save-file nothing else. Can't be that hard!

@hella rad babe: You're welcome. I recently completed the game a 100% also on the Playstation 4 and did it exactly the same way! So this is how you unlock it. wink

Ok... so just to be clear, there are 4 costumes, play 2 with Jill, play 2 with Chris, that's it?

@Mich Hemsworth: YES or play Normal/Normal+/Survival Mode/Invisible Enemies Mode with one character on the same save-file!

Yep same here. Haven't even touched Chris yet. Played Normal/Real Survival/Normal+speedrun/Invisible enemy. I'm wondering if you get them all the remaining ones for beating Invisible enemy mode because I'm sure I only had the 2 starting ones for chris before IE mode

Just did it on 360 in 3 playthroughs. 1Normal speedrun/Real Survival/Invisible Enemy So I'm pretty sure it's invisible enemy that unlocks the rest of them

@ wannabe1993: I checked your achievement progress for this and it says LOCKED (60%). Seems like you are still missing a few. Make sure you used the same SAVE-FILE. Pretty sure that's your problem!

In case someone checks these comments because they think they messed up with their saves I want to write here what happened to me:
Following the walkthrough I finished the game with Jill on normal, next run was Chris on very easy with CQC and the third run was real survivor combined with a speed run. At that point I only had the invisible/no save run left (Chris, very easy).
I did ALL of my first three runs via "Once again" WITHOUT loading a cleared save (of which I had three separate) and after my third run I was wondering why the costume-achievement was only at 60%, I just had the feeling it should be higher.
...Imagine the shock after I realized I was expected to load a cleared save for every new run. However, I started my last run (invisible, no save) just like the walkthrough says but this time I loaded my last cleared save, the one from my previous real survivor run.
After the invisible/no save-run the achievement unlocked just fine!
Why do I write all this? In case you think you are in the middle of a problem, maybe just keep following your playthrough-route.
After all I read here the achievement shouldn't have unlocked for me because I did only load a clear save for my last run.

This one is really easy, Complete the game with Jill x 2 and Chris x 2.
Pretty simple if you do the Good Ending , then the Bad Ending with each character.

(I did it on my alt. account which is why its showing I havent won it yet haha)

Load status: It is required to Load the relative Cleared Data. But after completion of a story that is automatically loaded. When the software was abandoned, after that nothing relative is loaded automatically upon starting software runtime.

Once again.../New game: The, Once again...-option, temporarily replaces the, New game-option, as long as the runtime session recognizes (when loaded/preloaded) a Cleared Data, and it serves not as a game play affected New Game Plus feature beyond the use of costumes. You will be able to select a difficulty level and play a story in base mode once again.

Costume usage: The initially used costume can be selected when starting a story, and changed at the Closet by the Art Room, which is initially accessible from the lower level of the Main Hall, after the retrieval of the Closet Key from the Medical Storage Room's Item Box.

Closet Key: The Closet Key will only be in the world, as long as progression originated from a Cleared Data. It is a story completion reward for saving Chris and Barry in Jill's playable story, and/or for saving Rebecca and Jill in Chris' playable story. This item is not required for the relative progression.

Progression: In order to continue making process on getting all costumes and all weapons, it is required to develop progress further from the most advanced Cleared Data. So, always load it when starting a new story, if is not already preloaded after a story completion during current runtime session. Only then, select either, Once again..., Real Survival mode, Invisible Enemy mode.

Progress tracking: 0%/20%/40%/60%/100% (80%-100% automatically calculated, based on two alternative costumes that come within software version)

Task: After the completion of four stories in base modes of any difficulty level or any challenge modes, all costumes (four unlockable) become unlocked for the extensive progression (developed from three most advanced Cleared Datas) of a Save Data. Save the forth Cleared Data, in order to keep relative progression (forth costume/flagged Weapons' index).

Unlock order: If the character played within a story had yet a locked custom, then one will be unlocked for them, otherwise one still locked for the other character would become unlocked.

I hope now everyone of the future will better understand.

If you made other conclusions and revealed any minor factual errors in this information, please share your findings in great detail by posting a comment to this Solution.

I think this is incorrect because my progress tracker is currently stuck at 80%. I'm not sure if my game is glitched or not as all the outfits are on one save file and it still hasn't unlocked.

I'm sorry, is this a solution for an achievement on how to unlock all costumes in Resident Evil, or are you trying to tell me that the bank has foreclosed on my house?

Why have you written this as if the English language hasn't progressed since 1666, I'm a 26 year old gamer, not a playwright dying of the fucking plague.

This trophy is easy enough to earn by simply completing the game four times; twice as Chris and twice as Jill. The difficulty or endings you earn don’t matter, simply beat the game twice as each character. Be sure you’re doing so by playing through via the “Once again…” option. Otherwise you run risk of not having the playthrough counted. Alternatively, you can unlock all costumes for each character regardless of your playthrough count with each by clearing Invisible Enemies once.

You simply need to complete the game twice with each character (so a total of four times). The BSAA outfits are unlocked from the beginning, you're unlocking the original Gamecube costumes:

  • Jill's "Sara Connor" Outfit
  • Jill's Resident Evil 3: Nemesis Outfit
  • Chris's "The Mexican" Outfit
  • Chris's Resident Evil CODE: Veronica X Outfit

Follow the playthrough recommendation and you'll unlock this naturally.
