How to unlock the Base of Operations achievement in RISK - Definitive Guide

Very simple. Create a game with three human, local players, you only need one controller, however.

Set up a conquest game and a world where you place the military on the map rather than have the game setup the world for you.

if you look at my image below, I setup all my (red) pieces in Africa except Egypt and I had a big force on the border with Egypt.

When the game starts just roll in to Egypt and you're 50GS richer.

Australia is also an easy continent to conquer.
Place one of your troop units on half of Australia.
Place an opponent on the second half of Australia. Leave his troop unit number at one.
Place three additional units on the three areas due north of Australia.
Increase the troop force to approximately 8 units on your half of Australia.

As Sneaky Stabbalot so accurately observes, be careful to place the enemy forces on the map so as to avoid having any one of them possessing a continent.

This can be done most easily with Australia as there is only one way into the continent. I started a game with 2 AI players and random territory distribution. You're looking for at LEAST one, preferably two or more starting territories in Australia, if you don't get them you can just restart fairly quickly and try again. Hopefully you'll play first so that you can dump all your troops into your Australian territories, and go on to conquer the rest. Once you have the continent, move as many troops as possible to the territory leading into Australia to use as a blocker.

Don't recall if the trophy pops as soon as you take over the continent on your first turn or after the turn has ended and you still have control of it. I got this in the first game I ever played, it shouldn't take long to replicate with the method above.
