While this doesn't exactly NEED a guide...
You start each level with one medkit (two if you buy the upgrade for 200 rad coins, which also nets you an achievement)
Pressing
allows you to enter a tent, and pressing while inside the tent lets you choose the H symbol with 
(left) on the D-pad, using medkit to heal. back to full health.
While you will most likely get this through natural gameplay, you can knock this out immediately upon starting up a level. Just don't expect that level to be any easier with fewer ways to heal lol.
