How to unlock the Buy a Real Instrument Already! achievement in Rock Band 2 - Definitive Guide

I did it on 80s hits at impossible level with Bass.
Was quite easy really!

So what challenges should I play to unlock the 80's hits challenge?

So this only has to be done with one instrument?

Yes, I did this alone.

I did it by doing the impossible challenge in relation to RB1 songs on bass. 3 songs on bass!? Doesn't get any easier. Of course, you have to pay the $5 to rip RB1 onto your HDD, but how many of you have not done that?

I just got the achievement on the "Earache Thrash Pack 01 Challenge" by doing vocals on my own. This is DLC, but all 3 songs consist only of talky parts. This is my first solution, so I hope it is relevant. If not, please let me know so I can do better in the future. Thanks!

Earache Thrash Pack 01 is still available for purchase and this solution still works as of January 6, 2018!

Note: The challenge will only appear once you have downloaded either the pack or all the 3 songs individually.

Here are the links to purchase the content needed as described by this solution:
Earache Thrash Pack 01 (contains all 3 songs below)
- "Blinded By Fear" by At The Gates
- "Thrasher" by Evile
- "D.O.A." by The Haunted

There is a glitch on any challenge. Choose a new challenge and perform all the songs but the last at your preferred level. Before starting the last one save and quit, then take it at Expert level. If you pass the song, you'll have the challenge passed at expert.
ONLY for new challenges.

This might just be me, but the Impossible Marathon Part 1 is pretty easy. Most of the songs are metal and stuff - easy-breezy on vocals. Also, if you've gotten the ENTIRE Red Hot Chili Peppers album "Blood Sugar Sex Magik," play it on vocals. It is easy, considering you can get past the 40-second hell that is "They're Red Hot" at the end.

Easiest way to do this I've found:

Download at least 2 Megadeth songs (I got "Hangar 18" and "I Ain't Superstitious.)

Play the Megadeth challenge on expert vocals. Megadeth songs may be hard on guitar, drums, and bass, but they're exceptionally easy on vocals (there's only like 4 phrases in "Hangar 18"!).

Was exceptionally easy to pass this way.

The easiest way to do this is find one you can beat the last song on with the instrument of your choice. Play every song in the set on easy with that instrument, but the last one. Then save and quit when the last song starts. Go back into the challenge and switch to expert and then beat the last song. I personally did 80's hits for this.

Go to the challenge screen and go to the highest tier that says The Impossible Challenge. Beat any challenge inside of there on expert difficulty and you get the trophy. Use your best instrument and you can have a friend join you and help you out with saviors if you need it but he has to be playing on expert as well.

It can be obtained from any of the "challenges" in the Impossible Challenges series. The instrument does not matter, the main thing is that it is an “Impossible Challenge” and the difficulty level is set to expert.
