How to unlock the Is This Just Fantasy? achievement in Rock Band 3 - Definitive Guide

This should work, I had a video of the same method but with an out of date method (thanks to BanditBanks for informing me on the updated video). The description of the video tells you what to do but this of course requires 3 microphones and probably speakers as laptop speakers usually will not work. Hope this helps

I used a PC with two speakers 4 feet apart with a bunch of shit in between. I also covered one with a pillow. I used a laptop with a pair of headphones wrapped around the mic, also covered this with a pillow, which played the main vocals blue track.

To start the videos, I pressed my spacebar on the youtube videos, I had to start the vocals track just before the harmonies video, might be different for you based on your computer speeds or software versions.

VERY important that if you have a multichannel speaker system (more than two speakers), that you change your computer's settings to STEREO (turn off 5.1 for now), and also turn off any enhancements or equalizer settings that you have (I had one on that made music sound better in my room, but it made this achievement not work for me because it alters the sound output). You'd find these somewhere in your control panel settings, they'll be different settings depending on what kind of computer you have.

I am AMAZED at the ratio in this, as I've done achievements that took weeks or months to get, and I did this in about an hour. My next best ratio is a 7.something, and it took about 3 weeks of my Xbox constantly playing poker hands by itself.

It also took me 3 hours to mess around with my settings but I finally got it to work. many thanks to the guys who put these videos together.

Agreed... I had to sing the blue line, as YouTube liked to get out of sync on girlfriends laptop.

Lots of practice, mostly in Bridge A and Bridge B.

Thanks for the video.

I couldn't get this until I synched up all 3 parts on different laptops. Its the only way I could get them from messing up because for some reason, even though I'd set the speakers 12 feet apart, they wouldn't work at the same time. I don't know if it's cause the volume was too loud and they were throwing each other off or what.

I had to download the video from youtube (with Download Helper) and rip the music from the video (AOA Audio Extractor) and then play the songs on a program called Audacity so I could play just the right or just the left channel of the sound.

And since I'm lazy, I got a 3rd laptop and played the lead part strait off of youtube and from there the most difficult part was synching the 3 laptops up. Before I knew it... bleep bloop!

Thanks so much for the video! This solution worked for me also. I played the video on my PC with one mic on the left speaker, one on the right. For the third mic, I hooked some speakers up to my phone through the headset jack and played it through there.

It worked really well, even on expert after a couple practice runs to see if I had the right levels. I left the mics alone and played a different part. I managed to miss 1 or 2 of the harmonies but got the achievement anyways with 98%.

For anyone who doesn't have more than one mic, I recommend getting the Lips game bundle with two mics. The mics are nice quality and seem to pick up the audio better than the standard rock band mics. Plus, they are wireless, don't take up USB ports, and light up. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the video.

Finally got it. I had to download the two videos and remove all the background music from them using Audacity, took me a further few hours to mess around with the sensitivity and volumes to get it working. You need pretty good audio equipment to pull this off. I had to use my Hi-Fi.

I was having trouble with RyRyanRobo's videos on YouTube, so I took his videos and modified them slightly. The "Blue" is me singing, with RyRyanRobo's original audio very quietly in the background. The "Orange & Brown" is RyRyanRobo's original video, but I recorded one small part of it, and I also removed the background noise from the parts of the song that don't have any Orange or Brown parts.

Here's a download link for my files:

All credit goes to RyRyanRobo for his original videos!

LeglessMoof you are a lifesaver. I had to buy new speakers and have the files play a little late (compared to the song) to get it to work but I had been very frustrated. Thank You.

Took a while to get it all set up with the right equipment but by using LeglessMoof's files and using audacity to split the left and right speakers into different audio files (My speakers wouldn't register correctly even with continual rearragements). Then used 2 ipods and my laptop with 3 different sets of speakers and had two other people help me start them all at the correct instance (it takes to much effort to do it by yourself for 3 devices). It all depends on what you have on you as to how easy this achievement can be for you. It took me about an hour and a half, but for this high TA ratio, I think it was worth it.

Am I the only one having a problem with the files where the orange line is consistently jumping around during the bridge sections? No matter what I do, I can't get that line stabilized, and since I only own one pair of speakers, I can't sing the line myself while also singing blue. Any suggestions?

Guys, the solution is to somehow split up the parts to completely different devices. I promise you it'll work like a charm that way. I've done it for this and all harmonies on Beatles because it wouldn't work at all otherwise.

After more than 3 hours I got it! I had to do the same method SIL3NCE, used 2 laptops and my phone. But before that, I was trying to use 2 speakers and the youtube video and they messed up each other, then I used Audacity to make a Left audio and a Right audio (orange and brown). Put each file on each laptop and put the blue one on the phone, cause I can't sing the Brigde part. After some attempts, pop up! Thanks for the video!

Video worked for only I had to sing the ORANGE cause it was picking up the background music to much. I did it three times in a row lol. Choir finally paid off. But I also did the endless set list 2 and bladder of steel on expert vocals lol. Good luck.

Last night we spent 6 hours trying to do just the internet got close alot but never fully made it. This morning I said screw and it took me 5 runs to memorize the ORANGE line. I heard this song hundreds of times which helps too. either way good luck everyone. you just have to find your way :)

i started at 530 ended at 8 05 guys be aware you can follow tihs guide greatly but you yourselfs have to figure out what is comfortable for you i followed this guide and added my own taste into it. i did the blue part legitly and let my skullcandy headphones (the big ones the hesh) manage the orange and yellow one microphone on one ear one microphone on the other. then i got my ipod and youtubed the blue pitches that is in the video above and put my ear buds on the left ear or right it doesnt matter while i heard myself to make sure it was the same pitch. i also did hum as well! only in the mama mia solos and stuff you have to make sure ur audios are sync up with the rockbands audio if its slightly off ur gonna mess up or the orange will mess up like it happened to me. THANK YOU I AM NOW THE 65TH PERSON TO COMPLETE ROCKBAND 3 :3

Would this work by plugging a 2.5mm male to 3.5mm male adapter from your controller to the laptop, simlar to the methods for Stone Cold Crazy on GH Metallica and Killer Queen on Smash Hits?

Just got this achievement today! I used 2 laptops and the other video titled is this just fantasy freddies part. Just so everyone knows you need to have a really good set of speakers for the harmonies. My speakers wouldn't work good so I borrowed my dads and it worked perfectly. I used my crap speakers for the other video. Just sync up both videos and watch all those triple fabs roll in.

I have not gotten this achievement yet, but my solution I believe will work. Though it requires running audio cables form your console to your computer to record the song 3 times. Make sure when you go to play it for the achievement, that all 3 microphones are connected. Also requires 2 computers (unless you can sing one part flawlessly) Here are the steps:

1. If you have the A/V cable or component cable, run that to your computer and hook it up into the line-in port of your sound card using a headphone jack to rca adapter cable (available at Walmart or RadioShack).

2. Load up the song in practice mode (full song). Make sure Guide Pitch is ON (gives a midi tone in the octave and pitch as the original vocals. And adjust these audio and microphone settings a) Audio settings - Instruments volume set to minimum, then Crowd volume set to minimum, and SFX volume set to minimum. b) Vocal options - Vocal track volume set to max. Mic 1, 2, 3 volumes should be default, unless you are picking up too much background noise, then lower 1 or 2 clicks of the slider.

3. Set the vocals part to Lead Only, then record it. Then do the same for Harmony part 1 and then for part 2.

4. Now you should have 3 different audio files for the vocals on your computer. Now download and install Audacity (url: http://download.cnet.com/Audacity/3000-2170_4-10058117.html) Sorry, don't know how to post clickable links.

5. Open Audacity, and open the harmonies part 1 file (may have to import depending on your recording software. You could use Audacity if needed.) Next, open harmonies part 2 file in a new track. Then pan one of the tracks to full left, then pan the other full right.

6. Use the 2nd computer for lead or whichever part you didn't use in the previous step. You will have to copy to the other computer using a usb flash drive. Open that file in Audacity or any other audio playback software (iTunes, or Windows Media Player) on the 2nd computer.

7. Have the first mic dedicated to lead (2nd computer) and right next to the speakers, and have the volume just loud enough to have the game register the sounds. Do the same for the other 2 mics for the other computer and speakers. Doesn't matter which speaker is used for which mic, as the harmonies aren't dedicated.

8. Now you are ready to play the song. You could edit the audio files to add more silence to the beginning of the track if you want to help out with timing. It'd be helpful if you did as the vocals start almost immediately after the song starts. Now it's just a matter of getting the timing right to get all of the triple awesomes.

I know this is complicated, and time consuming, but it works better than using lower quality video sound from YouTube as the audio files you create are of the highest quality your computer can produce. Also, in a video, sound is often compressed more than the video part to keep the file sizes down. With this method, there is no compression which equals higher quality, which in turn, equals more (if not all) vocal parts registered and a 100% FC and an achievement.

If someone wants to try this, that'd be cool. I don't have the capability right now as my main audio computer is in pieces (fried the processor trying to overclock it for gaming; my bad, lol.) An older computer(s) work the best. Any with the built in 7.1 surround sound sound cards have a line-in and mic input as the same port. And that doesn't work right for recording RB music, or anything from a line-level input (i.e., a game console or an older cd player). If this doesn't work, let me know, and I will omit this solution. In theory, it seems like it would work, but I don't know, as I don't have my second computer going right now. In any case, Rock On!!!

I know that is a lot of time since this solution, but the video for Freddie's vocals is down and megaupload is dead.

Doesn't anybody have the files? I'm trying this, but I fail always (in harmonies and lead)

Turns out Freddie's vocals on loads on mobile devices in case anyone is stressing out in 2018 that they can't get that particular video to load on a laptop.

Someone on PS3 Trophies provided a set of videos to get this achievement. You'll either need to sing the blue line or use the second video with a second device. Syncing the two took me a good while, but it eventually worked.

FINALLY GOT IT! After 3 hours of meddling with volumes/distances from speakers. I can confirm this video does indeed work. My speakers are about half a meter apart with a table inbetween them and the volume isn't all that loud. Just loud enough to pick up the harmonies and no other background noise from the video.

What I have noticed is that some parts when you are required to sing an octave apart, the arrows may jump around a bit, I noticed this on a different song while singing with my girlfriend. It's a bit glitchy.

Word of advice, the last 'For meeee' section screwed me over many times. Sing the blue line in any octave you find comfortable, but sing the note a split second AFTER the harmonies start their notes, this stops the arrows jumping and mixing with each other.

Hope that helps and good luck to all of you who use this.

I just got this after a couple hours of playing around. I used three mics and both youtube vids. The harmonies played out of my PC speakers with the mics about two inches away (very basic equipment- nothing fancy) and if you can believe this, I played the lead track via YouTube on my iPhone and held it against the 3rd mic (with the speakers touching the mic). Getting everything sync'd up perfectly was the tricky part because the iPhone vid would have a slight random delay upon starting.

My left hand held the mic and iPhone in such a way that I could press play with my left thumb. My right hand operated the xbox controller to start/restart the song, then the mouse to start the harmonies vid. I'd listen for the hihat lead in and start the iphone vid right around the 4th hit, then the harmonies vid right before what would be the 5th hit (the start of the vocals)

Where there's a will, there's a way!

Thank you for the solution! RyRyanRobo's videos are great. Using a laptop, some speakers and my smartphone, I was able to get this done quickly. My biggest difficulty was starting the laptop and my phone at the correct times so that it synced; since there's a slight delay between pressing start and the videos starting. (For example, based on the hi-hat count, I started my phone on the "e" of 4 and the laptop on the "a" of 4.) By the 3rd phrase you should be able to know whether or not they're lining up with the music.

No, I have yet to get this achievement but there are some tips which you can use when trying for it.

1) Play on Medium This song is already hard to sing decently!
2) Use three Microphones with three players, they can be connected by a USB hub (one came packaged with Rock Band 1) or you can use the two USB ports in the front and one in the back. Headsets and Kinect cannot be used as microphones.
3) Be aware of what setting the Pitch Correction is on. Pitch Correction doesn't affect what the game picks up, but what it throws out of your speakers. The problem is that if I am not hitting the note, I sound like I am, and will end up with a "Messy" at the end of the phrase because I think I'm doing it right.
4) Someone has to sing lead when Freddie is singing solo. When you have harmonies, it doesn't matter who sings what, as long as you all sing different 'lines', Microphone 1 can be a backup singer at these points. It doesn't matter if you 100% the solo sections.
5) Don't hum! I'm an idiot for suggesting this before, singing is better and assists you in hitting notes!
6) I noticed that if you don't play in your correct octave that you are supposed to be playing, then the game will think that you are playing a different part in the Harmony, and you are likely to miss the Triple Awesome. Ignore everything I said about octave abuse, go for learning it and singing properly, it really is the only way to do it...apart from ... you know.
7) There are 32 Triple Harmonies in this song. You must get all of them in one run of the song.
8) PRACTICE! This achievement really is dastardly.

The goal is located in Harmony - Epic Harmony Goals

Remember same notes, in different octaves will still count!

The above video is helpful for practice when you are not near the xbox. The left speaker plays the sine wave (pitch guide) for Harmony 1 and the right speaker plays the sine wave for Harmony 2. If you can block out one speaker, you can use the other as a guide for practice.

Here's the lyrics, each line denotes a different phrase, the bold denotes a phrase that has a Triple Awesome, and italics show different lyrics sung by harmony parts.
Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide
No escape from reality
Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see
Ooh I'm just a poor boy poor
boy I need no sympathy Be
-cause I'm easy come
Little high, little low
Ooh Any way the wind blows
Doesn't really matter to me

To me

Ma ma, just killed a man
Put a gun against his head
Ma ma, life had just begun
But now i've gone and thrown it all away
Ma ma, ooh
Didn't mean to make you cry
If i'm not back again this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on
As if nothing really matters

Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine, body's aching all the time
Goodbye everybody, i've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Ooh Ma ma ooh Any way the wind blows
Ooh I don't wanna die
I sometimes wish i'd never been born at all Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh

I see a little silhouetto of a man
Scaramouche Scaramouche will you do the fandango?
Thunderbolts and lightning, very very frightning me

Galileo, Galileo, Galileo, Galileo
Galileo, Figaro
Magnifico Oh Oh
I'm just a poor boy nobody loves me
He's just a poor boy from a poor family
Spare him his life from monstrosity

Easy come, easy go, will you let me go?
Bismillah No! We will not let you go
Let him go Bismillah we will not let you go
Let him go Bismillah we will not let you go
Let me go we will not let you go
Let me go we will not let you go never never never let me go! oh
No no no no no no no

Oh ma-ma-mia ma-ma mia
Ma-ma-mia let me go
Beelzebub has the devil put aside for me
For me
For ME?

So you think you stone me and spit in my eye?
So you think you could love me and leave me to die?
Oh baby
Can't do this to me baby
Just gotta get out, just gotta get right out of here

Ooh ooh ooh
Oh yeah oh yeah

Nothing really matters
Anyone can see
Nothing really matters
Nothing really matters to me
Any way the wind blows

The videos linked in the comments of the top solution and the TA walkthrough (which are the same exact videos) weren't working for me. The background music was interfering with the midi and some of the midi tones were just too low that the game wasn't picking them up. I decided I'd make my own recordings to fix these two problems. My recordings aren't perfect, but they're good enough. I used three different devices to play them back -- my laptop, my phone, and my old phone.
https://1drv.ms/u/s!AkK1-N_CM-yWhZx2TxNnw950fglvXg?e=GhLil7

The recording on the 2nd harmony part is delayed by about 5 seconds to make syncing the audios easier, so you don't have to press play on three different devices at the same time. There's also a second version of the lead recording that is delayed by 5 seconds, if you need it for some reason.

For pressing play on the recordings, I used the hi-hat intro to help with the timing. It goes "1... 2... 1, 2, 3, 4". To time the 5 second delay recordings correctly, hit play on the first "2". For the non-delayed recordings, hit play on the "and" beat of the "4".

It took me around an hour of attempts until I got a perfect sync and unlocked the achievement. Good luck!

This one is quite hard too. You'll need 3 microphones and 3 people that can sing very well to get this trophy. Although the trophy description doesn't say it, you'll need to play at least on Medium to get the trophy.

There's an alternate method for this one, using one or two computers/audio players:

**BIG THANKS TO RYRYANROBO**

Place two microphone against two different computer or headphone speakers. Start up Bohemian Rhapsody on medium harmony vocals and just as the first line of the song is about to start press play on this video. Sing the blue part of the song and your other two microphones should be hitting the other sections. Providing you hit all your lines, the goal should unlock at the end of the song.

If you can't or don't want to sing the blue part and have another computer/laptop/audio player, you can use the video below to "sing" the blue part for you:

I had to restart a few times, trying to synchronize the 2 videos and adjust the volume and proximity of the mics and speakers. But I got the trophy using this method on a PC and a notebook, so it really works.

It's important to keep the speakers and mics far apart from each other, to prevent crosstalk.

You will need three microphones for this and it must be done locally. There is no easy way to do this. Even on Medium it is a tricky song with 35 triple harmony parts. Not only that, but some parts are separated by perfect octaves, so the trick of changing octaves does not work unless you stagger the entrance properly, and even then there is no guarantee. It is possible to do this solo using individual tracks piped through speakers, but getting the timing right is going to be tricky and you still need three mics. Probably the easiest way to do this is to get three people who can carry a tune and practice. Even then, it will not be possible for everyone.
