How to unlock the The Endless Setlist III achievement in Rock Band 3 - Definitive Guide

MY METHOD REQUIRES A WIRED TURBO CONTROLLER. I put on no-fail mode by pressing start then going to modifiers and putting a check mark next to no fail mode, Then I went to band goals, subcategory Epic Rock Band 3, and chose endless setlist 3, expert difficulty (don't know if it mattered just wanted to have it completed on expert). Used a wired mic , turned on turbo for the A button, and kept the A button held down all night while I slept, this ensured I would skip to the next song automatically. I just woke up to find out it worked! Took less than 7 hours.

Just as ESS3NC3 0F 3V1L was saying, you don't even need to have a mic connected for this to work.

Do you think it would be possible to tape the A button down or the green button on a guitar?

no because it needs to be pressed over and over and over again.

Now correct me if I am wrong. If it is on no fail mode. And you have a turbo controller. You would not even need a mic plugged in to complete it would you? Cause Its going just fine for me without a mic.

So without a turbo controller, just watch some movies or something and press the A button every few minutes...that could at least get you through it on a lazy Saturday

Boo, the achievement isn't called "own a turbo controller."

I know its not called own a turbo controller. If you have a turbo controller its easier, otherwise just sit there for 8 hours and keep pressing "a"

They should patch the game so you can't get the achievement with no-fail on.
I mean come on, where's the fun in that?

@M4G3RK My batteries went dead 3/4 of the way through bladder of steel...needless to say my guitar is now in pieces,,,! I look at the broken peices now and again to remind myself that some achievements are pointless and actually detract from the enjoyment of the game and achievement hunting.

holy crap, i can't believe this solution got so many negative votes, whereas the other one to manually press the A button and not play (which is essentially the same thing, but more work), gets no negative votes. Philistines.

Hope you have a lot of time on your hands! Getting through all 83 songs can take anywhere from six to eight hours, depending on how long your break is between each song. You can pause or fail as much as you want; there is no achievement for blazing through like Rock Band 2's Bladder of Steel. You can play on the instrument and difficulty of your choice. I also recommend choosing the goal itself under Career goals -- it's under Band goals, subcategory "Epic Rock Band 3." This saves the time of building the setlist in Quickplay.

Be aware that once you start playing this marathon, you cannot exit to any other game mode nor turn off your console without losing your progress. You also cannot re-calibrate your TV with the game. However, options such as lefty mode and no-fail are still readily available and you can toggle them as much as you want during the setlist. Trust me, you might need no-fail for songs like Llama or Roundabout. Turning these options on or off does not affect getting the achievement; all you really need to worry about is the ridiculous amount of time it takes to get this achievement. Good luck!

No-fail is a game modifier in Rock Band 2, and activating it disabled certain features of the game such as leaderboards, saving data, and achievements. None of that applies here; no-fail can be freely turned on and off even during a song, and should not affect getting the achievement. The only real requirements are to include all 83 songs in a single setlist and let them all finish; skipping songs is not allowed, even after failing.

Could you then turn on No Fail and simply do something else? Would it need to be toggled for each song or just once?

You don't have to build the setlist 1 song at a time. They have preset lists. It's simply called "The Endless Setlist" and has all the songs in it already. I'll probably go to the career goals just to make sure but it should work.

vSully, I would like to know this as well. I find it weird that that method WOULDN'T work if they really did make it so "no-fail" mode doesn't disable achievements.

Play Now > Quickplay > Play a Setlist > The Endless Setlist III

Can you switch instruments mid-way through?
0

By Gnarlycore on 30 Oct 2010 13:42
If all local players drop out, the game resets itself to the main menu and you lose your progress on the setlist. You cannot add instruments while the setlist is being played; all players involved must join in at the beginning of the setlist. If you plan on having a go without no-fail and without any other local players, switching instruments is highly discouraged. However, if you have someone else to switch instruments with, by all means do so at your leisure.

I played it by myself and switched instruments, no problem. Press start after a song finishes and "Drop Out". You will then be prompted to connect a control and press start. Do so, then you're set.

Couple Questions:
1. So you can switch instruments as long as its before the next song and one person always remains?
2. Whoever is getting the achievement needs to be in at the beginning of the setlist? (In every song.. 1st - Last)
3. Once people are locked in to play, can you add and subtract instruments through out with no risk of voiding the achievement for those who were there the whole time? (ex. friend comes over and we are 20 songs in can he join then drop out then later rejoin with no prob. or possibly multiple people going in and out)

Also does anyone know if when you beat it on Expert and stay on the same instrument, do you unlock anything special? I just beat it on Expert Guitar all the way through and wasnt sure if I got anything for it...

I am officially confirming that you do not have to play a single note and you can still unlock this achievement. I just did it. You do, of course, have to press the A button at the end of each song, however.

I just went through this, playing most of the songs on expert guitar. However i restarted the last song (free bird), cos i wanted to get the ach on a friends gamertag aswell. When I went through it again all looked fine, went through all the rewards etc.. Then WTF?!? no ach on either gamertag -.- so now i have to go through it again.. not gonna play a single song ofc, but not gonna mess with it again either.

I cannot stress this enough: You MUST have all 83 disc songs in your setlist. Not "most of the songs" as Nirumano tried. If you do not have "Imagine" or any of the on-disc songs without keys support, you need to include them in your setlist before starting.

Just go to "Play a Setlist" and choose the Endless Setlist 3 from the options.

I just tried getting this achievement, solo Expert guitar. After about song 40, the save icon froze on-screen. Then after Rainbow In the Dark the fucking game FROZE! Couldn't reset it or do anything! If you're going for this achievement, make sure your 360 isn't SHIT (or at least make it well-ventilated) and definitely wipe the disc clean. You don't want to end up playing for 4 hours and getting absolutely nothing out of it.

And yes, to verify, I played through the endless setlist today, and only actually played during about 60% of the songs. The other 40% I turned on no-fail and just set down my guitar and read a book or did something else.

I can't verify for sure that this would work if you did it for EVERY song, but there were a healthy chunk that were 0%, 0stars, 0 notes hit and I got the cheevo.

And once you turn on no-fail, it will stay on until you toggle it off. You do not need to toggle it every song. You do have to hit A after every song to move on to the next one, though, so you can't just set it up and leave for hours (unless you have turbo controller)

Also maybe it goes without saying, but you can do this on guitar even though Imagine has no guitar part. I'm guessing you can do it on any instrument, despite part availability across songs.

I investigated some questions, and here are my findings:

Q: Can you switch instruments as long as its before the next song and one person always remains?
A: You can switch instruments at any time during the setlist; this is one of the great additions to Rock Band 3, but it takes a little time to do properly. If you want to keep your profile on while switching, choose "Drop Out" in the pause menu and then turn the controller off. Turn on the instrument that you're switching to, and if you have the same controller assignment your profile should have successfully switched to that instrument. For those thinking the setlist will just play itself, though, I should tell you: if no one is actively involved in the song (everyone has dropped out) the song will pause and the screen will prompt "Press Start on any connected controller to play!" If you don't need your profile on the new instrument, you can just drop out on the old instrument, connect with the new one, and join in by pressing start.

You do not need one person to remain on the setlist while switching; if the only person is dropping out, the song will pause and wait patiently for someone to connect and press start.

Q: Whoever is getting the achievement needs to be in at the beginning of the setlist?
A: I'm not sure if this has a definitive answer, but then again I'm not sure why anyone would sign out of their profile while trying to get an achievement. I would like to say that anyone involved in completing the last song on the setlist would get the achievement, but I am not certain if being signed in for each song is required.

Q: Once people are locked in to play, can you add and subtract instruments through out with no risk of voiding the achievement for those who were there the whole time?
A: The achievement will definitely unlock for players that were signed in the whole time, regardless of other players. The other players, though, I can't speak for.

Q: When you beat it on Expert and stay on the same instrument, do you unlock anything special?
A: No. The Endless Setlist III is the only "endless setlist" goal in Rock Band 3; there are no goals for beating it on a specific instrument or difficulty. There are other goals given for doing well on a specific instrument on a specific difficulty, but they are not related to the Endless Setlist III.

All 83 songs have to be in the setlist to unlock the achievement. If you play on Keys or Pro Keys (god help you) you will be forced to sit through 17 songs where you aren't doing anything. Just selecting all the songs with Keys support won't unlock anything. Also, guitarists have to sit through "Imagine," the only disc song without a guitar part.

How to do the Turbo Controller method without a Turbo Controller

You will need: A controller with an A button, a stopwatch, patience, and enough money to pay the impending electiricity bill.

It's basically very lazy. You just need to know when to press the A/Green button to move to the next song. You can do what you like for the next handful of hours, but set your stopwatch at the following intervals after every time it goes you press A and reset the stopwatch to the new time. Make sure that No-Fail mode is turned on.

If you are using a normal controller, you will not need to plug a microphone in. As long as No-Fail mode is on.

Here is the entire setlist in this specific order and then how many minutes you have to wait before the results screen comes up:

"20th Century Boy", 4
"I Love Rock n Roll", 3
"Low Rider", 4
"Rehab", 4

"Viva La Resistance", 4
"Oye Mi Amor", 5

"I Can See For Miles", 5
"The Con", 4
"Oh My God", 4
"Living in America", 4
"Don't Stand So Close To Me", 4
"I Wanna Be Sedated", 3
"Centerfold", 4

"Get Free", 3
"Sister Christian", 6
"Dead End Friends", 4
"One Armed Scissor", 4
"Me Enamora", 4
"Werewolves of London", 4
"Cold As Ice", 4
"Caught In A Mosh", 6
"25 or 6 to 4", 5
"Hey Man Nice Shot", 5
"The Killing Moon", 6
"Portions for Foxes", 5
"Space Oddity", 5
"Humanoid", 4
"No One Knows", 5
"Just Like Heaven", 4
"The Beautiful People", 4
"Here I Go Again", 5
"Been Caught Stealing", 4
"Rainbow in the Dark", 5
"Need You Tonight", 4
"I Got You (I Feel Good)", 3
"Something Bigger, Something Brighter", 6
"False Alarm", 3
"The Power of Love", 4
"Everybody Wants To Rule The World", 5
"Before I Forget", 5
"Get Up, Stand Up", 4
"Outer Space", 4
"Last Dance", 4
"Good Vibrations" (Live), 4
"Misery Business", 4
"Smoke on the Water", 6

"Whip It", 3
"Killing Loneliness", 5
"Midlife Crisis", 5
"Crazy Train", 5
"The Look", 5
"Bohemian Rhapsody", 7
"Freebird", 10

So you just set your timer and know that when it beeps the song is almost over. I say almost because all I did was take the song's length and round up to the nearest minute. So some songs may end up lasting longer than specified depending on how long the cutscenes take. For instance "I Love Rock N' Roll" is 2:59, so 3 minutes may not bring you to the results screen. You might have to check and wait a minute.

So you can sit and watch TV or something and remember to press A during the ad-break or something.
I mean what exactly could you watch that's 384 minutes long?!

OR

You could actually play through the entire setlist if you want, but that is REALLY tiring. That's what I did, never again I say!

This is a lot easier then the previous Endless Setlists' mainly because you don't have to play. Just turn no fail mode on and hit Green every few minutes for 83 songs and you get the achievement. If you wanna playthrough it, it should take around 6-8 hours. But, i just let it run through most of it

An interesting thing that I discovered when playing the Endless Setlist last night: I was playing by myself on guitar for a bit but then one of my friends joined in playing bass locally about the 50 song mark. We played to the end and he got both the career goal and the achievement! Not sure if it works online but its an easy way to earn it!

If you plan on actually playing all the songs, follow these tips:

- Clear your cache before your start. No need for you Xbox to freeze when you're on song 80 of 83.
- Play with Bass. Guitar, Keys, and Drums are not featured in all songs. And if you choose vocals, be prepared to not have a voice.
- Take breaks often. Your arm will thank you.
- DON'T play with someone else. You need 8 hours. Chances are someone is not going to want to play the whole thing with you.
- Let those who live with you know what you're doing. No need for them to get pissed at you, and it gives them an opportunity to do what they need to do uninterrupted. Plus, they'll be able to find you easier.
- If you're 21, make sure you have plenty of adult beverages. You might as well enjoy yourself while eating up this huge chunk of the day!

This is far easier than it has been in other games. The order of the Endless Setlist is no longer slowly progressing through the easy songs to get to the very hard songs, you get a mix of difficulty all through the setlist. Second, you will get a break in between every song and you don’t need to worry about the Bladder of Steel. Finally, you can turn on “No Fail” if you really want, and pass every song, but it really isn’t needed since you can change difficulties on each song.

You will have access to the Endless Setlist as soon as you boot up the game, either by going to “Play a Setlist” and choosing it, or accessing it through the Epic Rock Band 3 goals in the Career Goals menu. This will take about six and half hours plus any breaks or retries, so set aside a solid day to get this done.

Unlike previous iterations of Rock Band, the Endless SetList is available to you right from the start by going to Career -> My Goals -> Rock Band -> Epic Rock Band 3.

You just have to complete it on any difficulty with any instrument. You can pause and take breaks between songs, but if you exit the SetList you'll have to start it all over again. You can use the No Fail modifier too, so it's not as difficult, just time consuming (about 6 or 7 hours).

Ok, I just completed this today and it took just under 8 hours. Its pretty easy but time consuming to get. You can use any instruments, even switch if you like, I left my keys on pro, and my mic plugged in incase I pressed the wrong thing. Because I'm pretty sure 6 hours in, if I messed it up I may have gone on a rampage! Ok, so that in mind, simply start the endless setlist 3, play like any setlist. You don't need to get a certain score even any score for a song so if you are feeling cheeky you can just let the song play by itself and move on. I did this with a couple that I hate playing. But its a good opportunity to work towards other trophies, I also got the silver pro keys trophy while doing this.
So basically keep playing the setlist, all in one go, you cant save or pause so make sure you set aside an epic 7 or 8 hours then in the end this beautiful gold shiny trophy will be yours :)
