How to unlock the New Challenger achievement in Rocket League - Definitive Guide
Nice and easy, join or create a tournament in Play -> Tournaments. Finish a game.
Best way is to join a game or create a tournament with the rules set to one goal wins.

Go to create a tournament in play and set the next tournament for 5 minutes time. People will join your tournament (you need at least 1 other team to start).
You can select any mutator settings you want or just play standard games.

I joined someone's tournament through the find tournament section and I ended up deciding to forfeit because I was trying to get the achievement by myself using my main and guest account at the time and the game was taking too long and I wasn't going to be able to get MVP in this one. The New Challenger achievement popped for me after forfeiting the game so there's another quick way to get it.

Anyone know why the Team Name Not Allowed message keeps appearing for me? It's not allowing me to join any matches, despite me not being in any team/club?

To unlock this trophy, you have to join and complete only one match in an online tournament match.
First, you have to decide whether or not, you can do this trophy, what I mean is that you will have to have either one of these:
-Two PlayStations with two copies of Rocket League and two controllers for each of them
-You have two controllers and your friend has two controllers as well
-You can have three friends join you
If you have any of them available, you can do this trophy.
To start off, we need to press "Play" in the lobby and go to "Tournaments". Press to create a private tournament and use these settings:
Team Size: 2v2
Bracket Size: 8
Standard Match: Best Of 1
Joinable By: Name/Password
Once you're done, you can share the name and password so your friends or yourself can join, then just score one goal and earn this trophy.

In the Play Now menu select Tournament. You can see a listing of tournaments, they occur every five minutes. Join any one and complete a match. Or simply start your own tournament using the method provided in "Together is Better".
From the main menu press Play and then Tournaments. You can either enter one that's about to start or create your own. Simply complete a match (it doesn't matter if you win or lose) and the trophy will pop once the match ends. You will earn this trophy whilst going for Best of the Bunch, so see that trophy for more details.
