How to unlock the Lord of the Bugs achievement in Rogue Galaxy - Definitive Guide

The earliest chapter you can obtain this trophy: Chapter Seven or Eight (Post-Game Recommended)

What is Insectron and how to catch Insectors:

Insectron is a mini game that becomes available to you during your first visit of Juraika; however, it's best to attempt this trophy during your post-game. This is because in order to create a team of High Ranked Insectors, you'll have to be able to travel to every planet, because they are scattered across the galaxy. Thus, you'll want to be able to visit planets freely to make things much easier for yourself. Furthermore, after completing the Ghost Ship Extreme, you will obtain the Royal Fruit. The Royal Fruit is a special item used to capture the "best" Insector in the game, the Dark Emperor.

In order to begin capturing Insectors from these planets, you'll need special traps designed to catch Insectors. Not only that, but you have to set bait inside the traps in order to draw Insectors into them. This is an interesting mechanic because Insectors like different types of foods and some traps will catch different types of Insectors. Another thing that you should make a note of is that Insectors can steal your bait from the trap(s) you set up. If this happens, then of course it means you didn't catch anything. Last of all, you can place these traps anywhere on any planet and then wait for five minutes to pass. While you're waiting, do not stay in the game menu when your traps are setup on the fields. Once five minutes have passed, you'll be notified via your Info Edge making a sound. Check all three of your traps to see if you've captured the Insector you wanted to catch. If not, simply reset all three of your traps again with bait and wait another five minutes.

Below are the types of traps:

  1. Insector Trap I
    • A basic collecting cage. Anyone into the Insectron has one of these.
    • In order to obtain you must visit Juraika for the first time and will be given it automatically.
  2. Insector Trap II
    • A pot-shaped collecting cage which may give you an edge on ground-crawling Insectors.
    • In order to obtain, you must purchase it from Shazelle in the Insectron Stadium.
  3. Insector Trap III
    • A birdcage-like collecting cage which may give you an edge on flying Insectors.
    • In order to obtain, you must create it using the Factory. See Factory Worker for more information.

Post-Game building a team of High Ranked Insectors without the need of breeding:

In this section, we'll go over getting a team composed of the highest ranked Insectors. This is the best method and approach you can take during your post-game because you catch high ranked Insectors an unlimited number of times. It might take a few tries to get the Insector you want to catch on a specific planet, but if you keep trying, you'll eventually capture the one you want. With a team of high ranked Insectors, there is no need to breed them or grow them into adult forms.

Below is a list of best High Ranked Insectors:

  1. Dark Emperor - Go to planet Mariglenn and then teleport to Gulza Sanctuary/Plaza.
    • Select a trap and then place the Royal Fruit in it.
    • Best Insector in Rogue Galaxy due to its normal attacks being able to knockback or flip bugs. Its special ability, Emperor’s Rage, can attack any opponent's Insector at a long range and this special ability can be used an infinite number of times.
  2. Little Elf - Go to planet Juraika and then teleport to Leo King's Castle/Near the Altar Hall.
    • Set all three traps up with a Sanchez Fruit as bait and place them near the altar.
    • Little Elf is a weak Insector, but its special ability, Charm Beam, allows you to steal an opponent's Insector at the cost of half its own health. This means one Little Elf alone can steal up to two Insectors before it dies. All Little Elfs move diagonally.
  3. Heart Roller - Go to planet Zerard and then teleport to Rosencaster Prison/Interior Pathway A2.
    • Head into Alekt Rosencaster's office and set all three traps up with a Ruby as bait and place them near the terminal.
    • Heart Rollers are good defensive Insectors that that can protect itself from any attack with a hard ball of dung. Whenever it gets attacked, the dung will take the hit instead. This dung can only be used 3 times before can no longer be used. It takes a few turns for a Heart Roller to make another dung too, but the wait is well worth it.
  4. Venus Beetle - Go to planet Rose and then teleport to Johannasburg/In Town.
    • Enter Johanna's house and set all three traps up with a Sanchez Fruit as bait and place them in front of the fireplace.
    • Venus Beetles are strong Insectors and are good at fighting opponents Insectors/Kings. Use it solo to weaken enemies with its high attack power strength. Additionally, the Venus Beetle's special ability, Crushing Horn, can be used to attack multiple lined up enemies in only one hit. The damage output from this move lessens as it hits the further back enemies, but will still cause good damage, especially to the enemy in front.
  5. Tornado Mantis - Go to planet Rose and then teleport to Kuje Desert/Near the Monument.
    • Set all three traps up with a Primeval Beef as bait and place them on the monument nearby the Transport.
    • Tornado Mantis is another strong Insector good at fighting other Insectors/Kings. It has a high attack power and its special ability, Sicke Dance, enables them to attack every opponent that surrounds it without splitting any damage. The only real downside to this Insector is that they usually get jumped/gang-banged easily.
  6. Lovely Honey - Go to planet Zerard and then teleport to Starship Factory/Near Pocacchio's Lab.
    • Set all three traps up with a Stella Crystal as bait and place them near Joshua inside Pocacchio's Lab.
    • Lovely Honeys are excellent for the purpose of poisoning. Their special ability, Poison Needle, can cause damage overtime to those affected with the Poison status effect. Use the Poison Needle on the opponent's King Insector to weaken/kill it overtime while you stall.

The Tournament:

In this final section, you'll want to become the rank S Insectron champion, located on planet Zerard - teleport to East Side/Near the Insectron Stadium; however, before you can participate in the tournament, you need to have the Insectron License and at least 5 Insectors. The Insectron License can be purchased at 3,000 Zehn from Miralka. Inside the stadium, go and talk to the announcer at the middle of the stadium to begin the championship. Talk to the announcer and you can begin from the lowest Rank E and work your way up to Rank S. A good team to take is this, for example:

  • Dark Emperor (King)
  • Little Elf
  • Little Elf
  • Heart Roller
  • Venus Beetle

When you pick your team you always want to designate the Dark Emperor as your king because he has the most HP, is the hardest to kill, and is overall the best King you can have. Setup your Little Elfs in a starting position where they can steal your opponents' Insectors at the start of the game. Little Elfs can only move diagonally, but once you know how they play you'll be able to use them to their full potential. Little Elfs can steal up to at least two Insectors before they die, so having two Little Elfs on your team is deadly. Beware, however, that the higher your opponent’s level, the more likely it is that Charm Beam will miss and your turn will be wasted, so keep your Little Elfs leveled up. Additionally, if a Insector you stole has the "Poison Needle" special ability, use it on the enemy King immediately. Heart Roller is there as a defensive Insector, while Venus Beetle will be your heavy hitter Insector. He can deal and take damage, which makes him a great member to have on your team.

Ranks E to B can be won easily, but once you've reached Ranks A and S things will get much harder for you because the opponents will have powerful Insectors. Each Rank consists of five rounds and if you lose a round you have to start over from round one. You need to defeat the opponent's King to win, but if your King is defeated you lose. The best thing about these rounds is that they aren't consecutive because you can take a break between rounds by stopping and saving your game at a Transporter. When ready to resume, you can talk to the announcer again at the center of the stadium. As mentioned before, Ranks E to B can be won easily and shouldn't pose any problems. When you reach Rank A, it's best to start keeping your Dark Emperor in the back at all times while you use Little Elfs to steal Insectors and kill the opposing King as quickly as possible. Don't forget to take a break after each round to save your game. Rank S is similar to how you needed to handle Rank A, but once you make it to the fifth round opponent on Rank S. You'll find that they also have a Dark Emperor of their own. This is tricky to attack directly, but if you're lucky enough to steal one of Insectors that has the "Poison Needle". Do so and Poison their Dark Emperor while you try your best to stall or go in for the kill. The last round opponent will always have an Insector with the ability to affect Poison status and that is where your Little Elfs comes into play. Once you finished Rank S, you'll unlock the trophy for becoming the Rank S Insectron Champion which also means that you've completed MIO's sidequest if you talk to her at the Galaxy Corporation.

Perhaps it will be useful to someone.

The last (actually not) battle of the tournament can cause some difficulties, since the opponent has a Dark Emperor (King) with 999HP and an infinite special in his arsenal. In addition, the DA attack has a chance to throw back (or, for good measure, completely knock your beetle out of the playing field, if it is one cell from the edge) of your insect by one cell, while the latter will lie inactive, belly up, for several turns.

My team of inspectors before the final battle for S Rank:
1. Staggy Hulk (Rank 8, Lv. 5, 999 HP)
2. Itsadog (Rank 8, Lv. 5, 999 HP)
3. Muramasa Beetle (Rank 8, Lv. 5, 999 HP)
4. Zeus Beetle (Rank 8, Lv. 5, 999 HP)
5. Rock 'n' Roller (Rank 8, Lv. 5, ~700 HP) (King)

The main bet in the battle was on the special Staggy Hulk - Scissor Throw , which managed to easily throw 3 enemy inspectors out of the playing field at once (there is a certain amount of luck, as well as dependence on the rank and level of your inspector).
Thus, having received a sharp advantage of 5:2, finishing off the remaining beetles (including DA) was practically no difficulty.
