Set it on the easiest difficulty. I played the first 4 games of the season, then just simulated every game til the finals, and played the finals to make sure my team made it to the GF. Over the season just make sure you monitor your teams ladder ranking, as they need to be in the top 8 to get into the finals series. If you see them dropping off, play the game and win it to keep your team up high.
Once you are there, simply lose the grand final and the achievement will pop. Should also work for the winning achievement.

When at the NRL or SL Grand Final, you must play and lose. Let the AI score by continually pressing 
to move players out of the way of the person with the ball. Then just run out the clock and at the end of the game the trophy is yours. Alternatively, you can select every team in an NRL or SL season and simulate every game until the end.
Note: If you choose to select every team and simulate, you must still play the Grand Final and lose for the trophy to unlock.
Note: You can abuse the save data being able to be copied to a USB for this trophy. When you get to the Grand Final, save and exit then copy the save data to the USB. Load up Rugby League Live and win/lose the Grand Final. Overwrite the save data on the harddrive with the save data on the USB and win/lose. Thanks to lofty_89.
