It took some trial and error, but I believe it's a decent guide in helping people get this achievement.
When you're at Lake Crystal Dew (the 1st stage), the first part of the stage - 6 am - 10am - do your fishing at the rocks closest to the speed boat that's not occupied in the water for roughly 1 hour game time (6 am to 7 am) using the vibration or pencil baits. You should be able to capture 2 or 3 bass (usually 1 huge included), then for the rest of the morning period (7 am to 10 am), concentrate at the bridge's arch supports, the bass usually hanging around the rocks and besides the supports itself.
With luck and skill, you should get about 28 to 30 lbs of fish and 1st place.
With the afternoon, continue to concentrate on the bridge's arch supports and completely ignore the rocks near the boat and boat itself, the fish rarely go there. Use the vibration (preferred) or straight worm. If the fish get stubborn at the bridge supports, tease them for a few more seconds (no longer than five seconds - otherwise, you're wasting time.)
You should be able to get roughly another 30 to 35 lbs worth of fish.
Finally, for the evening, use your best judgment - but get at least 70 lbs of fish total and you should win the 1st stage with about 5 lbs or so to spare at the minimum.
For the second stage (the Lodge) - go to the left side of the map and use any top water bait over there - I personally used the popper bait and I got 61lbs 15oz of fish during the 6 - 10 am period alone.
Usually the computer will get up to 30 - 32 lbs during the same time period.
From the 10 am to 2 pm part of the stage, stay in the middle of the stage. The computer players will get up to 50 lbs during the same time period.
From the 2 pm to 6 pm part of the stage, continue to stay in the middle of the lodge and continue fishing - final total will have the computer competition as high as 75 lbs of fish. You should be at least 100 lbs easy and a new achievement.
As a side note, when fighting your "average" size fish and bigger, I'd took note where the other fish were going, so I knew quickly where I can throw my bait next - remember, every second count in Sega Bass Fishing.
