How to unlock the Perfect Angler achievement in SEGA Bass Fishing - Definitive Guide
Going for this achievement will also get you the first place overall in the pro tournament achievement, the secret lure achievement, and if you use my lure approach it will also help to get the top water lure too.
Lures:
First thing to know is that lure selection depends on water temperature. The morning, cool temp is best for top water lures. The hotter, midday temp is not effective for the same lures, and you will need bottom lures. The evening is not as cool as the morning, but it's usually cool enough to switch back to top water lures.
My top water lure choice is the popper. It's easy to use, counts towards the top water achievement, and can be very effective in cool temperatures. I use the brighter colored option for morning and the default color for evening. If it's raining the popper is not as effective, I usually switch to the floating minnow or shallow crank when the rain hits. The key to using the popper is to pull back on the lure WITHOUT reeling in. After pulling back, reel in the slack (you'll see the line tighten), and pull back again making the popping sound, then repeat.
When the hot temp of midday hits, top waters are ineffective. My hot water choice is the grub. Definitely play with multiple colors to see which one works for the cloud cover. If the evening round is still warmer, I stick with the grub instead of going back to top waters
Locations:
Morning round I fish "The Lodge" or "The Reeds" depending on the set of spots available. Both have great shallow, cool temp fishing.
Midday round I fish "The Palace" or "The Falls." Both have great deep channels (along the palace door and in front of the falls) that hold monster fish during warm water.
Evening round I go back to my morning spots unless the waters stays abnormally warmer, in which case I stay put.
Summary:
This approach consistently gives me most if not all huge bass in my five fish limit. I'm usually double the weight of second place. I find that the pro level is easier b/c you only keep 5 fish. It's easier to out fish the AIs by getting 5 big ones rather than keeping up with everyone's cumulative totals. Everyone has their favorite lures (for example you could switch the pencil bait out for my popper) but I find these are very effective when used correctly. The game is definitely not just luck. Using the baits right and following the weather is keep to getting huge fish. Enjoy.

Used this guide to win the challange acheivement. works perfectly. like you said, subbing in the pencil bait seemed to work a little better for me. but still a faultless guide. thanks.

Great solution. Popper tended to win out over Pencil bait for me, and also the Sonic lure is consistently good for afternoon / evening sessions once you've unlocked it.

Missable
This is one of the two missable trophies that is earned during the Professional Tournament. You must win all stages of this tournament to obtain the trophy. This is actually fairly easy to perform, please refer to the results I obtained during this tournament for an idea of weights needed to win each stage:
- Stage One - 1st with 80 lbs 13 oz, 2nd had 34 lbs 09 oz
- Stage Two - 1st with 57 lbs 07 oz, 2nd had 35 lbs 04 oz
- Stage Three - 1st with 56 lbs 06 oz, 2nd had 34 lbs 09 oz
- Stage Four - 1st with 37 lbs 14 oz, 2nd had 35 lbs 09 oz
- Stage Five - 1st with 48 lbs 14 oz, 2nd had 34 lbs 06 oz

The tournament is simple, 5 runs of 3 catches each, you need to catch more than your opponents, if the last 5 in the table is not the first, we leave the game with the PS button. Also, if the fishing is bad, you can leave the game and start from the same stage that you did not finish.
