Incredible! You've beaten Shaun White!

How to unlock the Y.T.M.N.D. achievement in Shaun White Snowboarding - Definitive Guide

Shaun White's equipment leads him to be a fairly tough opponent.

After completing all his challenges, mountain challenges and ultimate challenges (long road, I know) on EVERY mountain, you can meet him at his Alaskan hideout (Warp to the heli nearest his face, walk up the mountain a bit, you must have been there before).

The challenge is on the natural halfpipe, a rather tricky one to navigate in comparison to all others you've seen so far. SW scores fairly high, and you may feel that you'll never beat him at first, but trust me, you'll get lucky or get better.

Try using the Pink/Blue board, and go for spins, tweaked grabs and perfect landings. Flips don't score you enough, and you need to ensure you don't bail as to keep your multiplier up.

Most of the time he will score 20-30k so this is where you should aim for. But 1/4 attempts (roughly) he really messes up. I've seen him get as low as 10K (bare minimum for you to beat) and even go out of bounds, causing him to not finish. Keep at it, aiming for 20k (it's possible to get 40K+ if you're good) and eventually you'll get through this. Just don't quit, persist and you'll get there. Really is a frustrating achievement when he beats you by 100 points.

After beating him you get his board (Operator) and you can see why he scores so high.

(For extra points, anyone know what Y.T.M.N.D stands for? My best guess is "You're The Man Now, Dog" :p )

hummm... for real?
if he's so tough to beat, how come i got 22k and he got 17k on MY FIRST TRY?
i was all scared about spending hours in that challenge, and 2 minutes later, i win.
kinda hard to believe he was so bad with THAT board!

Agree with terrett101. Flips were WAY easier. I was told the same thing and back when I first got it I ended up getting 30k with flips. Easier to pull off, easier to land, easier to win IMO.

30,541 to 25,265 took me 2 hours to get him. Just hang in there like they say. I was mad at the world for a while but he will miss up every now and again!

Yo this halfpipe can SMD. It seems to curve out so I do to do a trick and hit the top and get like 5ft of air. It blows. Or i get tons of air and hit the top on the way down and then it throws me into the middle of the pipe with no speed to do another trick.

I am absolutely awful at this. I can barely get 10,000 which is REALLY bad. D: I just keep hoping Shaun get disqualified somehow because my tricks aren't working consistently. Either the landing messes up, or he won't actually do a spin. *sighs*

Just want to add for anyone out there still playing this game (only me?) that I had significantly more luck beating him by doing flips. Definitely not discrediting Abylities guide, but if you're not having luck with the grabs and spins etc, give flips a go. I probably gave it a good 20-30 attempts with grabs and spins and never got greater than 11k or so in points. I found that far too often I couldn't get my guy to spin, or he'd pull a trick and I'd get no points (repetition maybe?). I also find spins no easier to land than a flip.

But I figured I'd try with flips, and beat him on the 4th attempt. With a decent enough jump, I could typically get two flips in quite easily, and I found it quite easy judging when to release so I would consistently land without bailing. I had no problem building up enough points this way, and had about 25k on the run that won.

Anyway first getting there:

1. Fly to Alaska and heliport to the highest point.
2. Go through the natural halfpipe on the left and when exiting keep right and eventually you will see some signs with his head.
3. After following 3 signs or so you need to bear right under a rock tunnel.
4. At the end of this tunnel is a big jump which you need to use focus for by holding x then hold down RT and let go of RT once you go off the ramp
5. Once you land on the mountain top set a marker by Hold down on the d-pad and then press X to set markers. Then hold down the d-pad and press B to jump to marked location.
6. You need to make one more jump with focus to get to the hide out if you fall just warp back to the marker.

It's a simple 1 on 1 half pipe challenge. Highest score wins. No clue what happens in a tie that didn't happen for me.

This achievement is very random because you never go second. Therefore you have no idea what score is good enough, because Shaun will always go second. If you could consistently score over 25,000 each time it shouldn't take too long, but it definitely can take a while (It took me over 100 tries).

I tried all different controllers and different methods, but the biggest tip I can give is to purchase the Target Edition of the game instead of the normal edition. Having that edition will unlock the Operator board (The same board Shaun uses in this challenge).

To unlock this :

Once you have a total past 1 million respect points, go to the VIP chalet in Target mountain and you can pick one up.

Anyway I found a controller with looser sticks works better. Ones I tried with tighter sticks didn't spin as much. I mostly did spins, but flips worked too. Make sure to try not too fall too much. As I said earlier if you can constantly score 25k or more it will eventually happen. With the target board this isn't too bad once you get it down. Like I said it did take me probably 100 tries, but I had got the rest of the achievements in the game years ago then came back to this if I was playing this all in a close together period I probably wouldn't be so rusty.

Score for reference:

Once you've beaten all the ultimate competitions you will have one last mission to do in this game, and that is to beat Shaun White himself. He tells you where to meet him and once you get there you'll see its a halfpipe challenge and the person with the most points at the end of the halfpipe run wins. Shaun White is very good you'll notice in the beginning attempts. You'll eventually see that he starts to get worse and worse and that he messes up more and more. If you consistently score 25-30k points per time you will beat him. I found it easiest to do backflips off the halfpipe. Keep trying to beat him like i said he gets worse. I can almost guarantee this will take you at least 5 tries.
