I recommend doing this after the City Magnate trophy, as you'll be swimming in enough Yuan to earn this.
There are dozens of shopkeepers about, but I'd seek a Fruit/Vegetable stand - which you can find in Bailu in the town centre - and make a manual save before you start this, unless you want 1000 items you don't want in your inventory. Press R1, scroll to settings and click Save.
Simply press Square to buy from a vendor, buy 1000 of the cheapest item, ping the trophy and then reload your save after. It is culmative, so if you do not attempt this straight away you will be able to buy less.

1000 items can be very usefull to restore your life during the game. Personnally i bought and kept all what i bought. Only food and the cheapest one. when i must eat i am easy :)

This will require you to purchase 1,000 items at the various shops in the game. Wait to do this in Niaowu for a much easier time. See King of Gamblers for details on how to earn a lot of money. Once you have all that money, you can go on a spending spree.
