How to unlock the Gacha Catcha III achievement in Shenmue - Definitive Guide

WhiterValkyri's solution is correct except it doent take extra collectables as you start with some which are not included in the count for the achievement. These are given at the start as they were only available on the dreamcast version by using the shenmue passport which was later closed down. This feature was not relaunched for this version so they instead put them straight in to your collection.

So you need to get 50 in total collected yourself from either the 6 toy machines.

5 are obtainable from the forklift races 1 for coming in each position.

In the stores if you buy either potato chips or chocolate your can win these from the store raffle, each store has a different raffle which can be viewed in each shop usually on the counter or advertised in the window. I will update with a list once I get a chance.

You can win them for completing the arcade games hang on and out run with only 1 credit.

I believe there are a few more which I will update when I get to them all again.

If there is any questions please let me know and I will try to direct you to specific ones if you are wanting them all.

Can you get enough for the achievement just from the toy machines? How many are available in each machine?

Mini darts toy didn’t help me in 25 or 50. Specials probably don’t count

Super sonic worked for me I got it in the raffle in the store in dobuita, so I'll have to Check each on to see what counts properly, I'm going to play the game on a second tag after mine to make a walkthrough for the game. I will check each 1 to see what counts and not then and update this with all of these.

I was able to get this between the 4 machines you have access to shortly after starting the game. I had about 2500 yen left when the achievement popped so it's definitely obtainable just from the machines. I just reloaded my save to get my money back then. I'd say it took maybe 45 minute to an hour.

Yeah you can definitely get them from the machines it's just there are so many ways to get others and there is a lot of free time in the game with some fun mini games to get them as well, I'll get the full list up tomorrow for it and I'll add this in as well. I will try to give rough estimates for time on mini games to for each one.

I didn’t have any trouble going for this achievement and as a Collectible achievement it was actually pretty fun. My achievement popped on exactly 50 Capsule Toys. I didn’t go over or have to go up to 70 Capsule Toys for it to pop.

When keeping track of how many toys you have, always skip the toys between “Pochi” and “Pyonta” because the game gives those to you when you start and they dont register as part of any Gatcha Catcha achievements.

When you get a job in the harbour you have 5 working days sometimes 6 if you don't trigger the next part where you can spend a lot of money on these and you have free time I used all lunch breaks and stayed out till 11:30 each night getting extras also try using different machines once you have so many from each one for better odds of new ones.

When is the point of no return? I assume I can get a job and earn money to buy these? The duplicates are KILLING me and I am running out of money. for me I will buy 10 and like 1 or 2 are not duplicates.

OMG.... I have 50!!! But still not achievement. Even not counting the animals. AND Im out of money. What an annoying process this will be if I need to wait entire days for 500 yen just to get duplicated....

I also got this from the first 4 machines but had to wait until I had 53 or 54 before it would pop. I wonder if they forgot or intended not to include random ones like the dice or balls in your total. Odd but glad it popped before I ran out of cash/patience.

I got all 50 from the first four machines as well. Ach popped at 50 on the dot. Took my bank down to around 3000 so a decent amount of dupes. Either way, all good! Thanks for the tips everyone!

I got about 53 before it popped. Balls, dice, and the other trinkets ones count. I got the achievement on a ball I didn't have. I'd highly recommend saving after getting a new one, give it few goes, and if you don't get a new one reload.

Not popping. I've got well over 50 unique gatchas, not counting the freebies (xbox.com says 78). This is the 3rd achievement I've had problems with on this game. "I Know Kung Fu" and "Yummy Meal" both failed to pop, even after console resets and restarting the game, but then showed up a week or so later. Could be Live / state of the world right now, but no other games have been giving me issues and I just unlocked Freeloader without issue after about 4 attempts to load old saves and pass 50 gatchas.

EDIT: popped a few hours later while killing time at the gatcha machines while waiting for the travel agent. Popped just after pulling a duplicate, lol. So, I dunno. Probably just Live acting up again.

Yeah you can get way more just from the toys machinces, there are way over 100 from them. I will put a break down of how many you can get when I get the chance, but if you press the Y button and hit (RT) you can see which ones you have. The ones that are animals are the ones you start with which do not count. Each machine there is only so many you can get though you will need to use different ones to get the full 50.

I unlocked my 25 and 50 achievements at 28 and 53. The only two sets of 3 I had when the 25 achievement unlocked with 28 different toys were both Binsbein 1/2/3 and Dice 1/2/3. It does look like theres a silhouette for a Binsbein 4 but I haven't gotten that so I couldn't tell if they were counting or not.

Either way it's just some feedback for figuring out which toys may not count if there are some.

Also, it's probably fairly obvious but you can just save before opening a capsule and if you get a duplicate, just quit out and reload and try again until you get one you need, then save again. If you really just want the achievement and would rather keep the Yen for other things you could just save/reload in a seperate slot until you get your 50 then reload your main again. The 3rd and 4th toy machines really aren't that far after the 1st and 2nd ones.

This is missable.

There are seven capsule toy machines located throughout the game; two in Sakuragaoka (outside Abe Store), two in Dobuita (outside You Arcade), and three at the Harbour (inside the Harbour Lounge). This has to be 50 unique toys.

Capsule toys cost ¥100 each, so be mindful as Ryo begins the game with just ¥10,300 and receives ¥500 allowance per day until he begins working at the Harbour later in the game, where money is earned according to how well the player performs.

For me, this achievement unlocked after having more or less 70 different toys.

Yes you can. The point of no return is basically the end of the 5th day of work. When you go to sleep that day, the events will no stop to let you do what you want. When at working you can buy while noon pause and when you came at Dabouita in the afternoon.

There are a number of places you can obtain the toys from.
* Some are in your collection when you start the game - these were originally available in the Dreamcast game if you connected to the Internet with the Shenmue passport. These do not count towards the total for this trophy
* You can get a toy each day in the forklift race - you get a different one for each position you finish in
* You can win them in the raffle in store for buying crisps or chocolate or cassettes.
* You can win them by completing the Super Hang On or Space Harrier arcade games with a single credit.

But the main place you get them from is the capsule machines! There are two in Sakuragaoka (outside Abe Store), two in Dobuita (outside You Arcade), and three at the Harbour (inside the Harbour Lounge). There are six different types of machine - the generic Sega ones are in Dobuita and the Harbour.

To get the trophy you have to get 50 different toys, duplicates don't count. To have the best chance of getting new toys, don't just use the same machine over and over - spread your spending between the six different types.

GLITCHED and MISSABLE

SAVE before getting your 50th unique toy from the capsule machines. The trophy should be awarded as soon as you receive your 50th unique toy from a capsule machine. You can view what toys you have received from the menu by pressing . Note that only the toys received from toy capsule machines count toward your 50. Make sure to complete this before moving on to the Gainful Employment trophy. You can get it after that point but things start to move more quickly and it is easier to miss.

Same approach as Gatcha Catcha II. Just keep spending 500 yen a day until you have 50 unique capsule toys. This becomes much easier once you gain access to the machines in the New Yokosuka Harbor District. However, you have to spend 160 yen to take the bus to the harbor, and 160 yen to get back. This leaves you only enough to get 1 toy from the money Ine-san gives you each day. This is why it is good to save your money earlier on.

There are 7 toy machines in the game (2 in Sakuragaoka, 2 in Dobuita and 3 in Porto). The toys should be different, so don’t hang out at one machine, you can track the number in the collection (little animals don’t count because Rio had them before the game started, only those you received yourself count)

I recommend that at the very beginning of the game, in your free time from the plot (and you will have it), immediately spend all your money and time collecting all the capsule toys. There are two machines in front of the store in Sakuragaoka and two machines in front of the arcade. And it’s just stupid to farm toys when we have free time. I did this. Got the same toy? I go to another machine and farm there. And so on until we reach 50 DIFFERENT toys.
