You don't just need to collide, you actually need to crash into trees (causing you to respawn). I did this on the Air Masters Canada course, where there are no opponents and lots of easily accessible trees. Just drive towards one and press A just before impact.

does that mean u have to fall down when u collide with them or just bump into them cause i bumped into many trees?
