How to unlock the Too Metal For Magic achievement in Slain: Back From Hell - Definitive Guide
As the description states, DON'T use any mana throughout your playthrough.
The only way I can guarantee that you won't even accidentally touch the is if you have an Elite controller where you can remap the buttons. I would suggest that you remap to one of the four back paddles and then REMOVE that paddle.
You can't click what isn't there...

HI there everyone. I'd like to complete a little bit more this guide from Slain: Back From Hell cuz I'm the world record speed run holder right now in PS4 (Universal version, separated of the Japanese version which I'm planned to do someday) I'm doing my best to complete this game on Xbox One and it's more hard to do on this platform because of the autosave, something that in PS4 you can easily "trick" by uploading to the cloud o to your USB stick your save.
I'm almost done with everything but for some reason this achievement didn't triggered and I did it TWICE in differents slots (But the same save).
The game so far have the same problems/glitchs/bugs achievements in PS4. For example, you have to complete the first level without dying but in one session, you can't go to main menu and play another day although you haven't die, it must be done in one session uninterrupted. This works also for some other achievements like beating High Lands without using the fire sword or climbing up the fire tower (2nd level after beating the "Plant based" Boss).
So, even with the PS4 trick, even if you load your match again, you won't get the trophy for these I just mentioned above.
With the MANA the problem is that if you touch the button, it will automatically saved (Bastards...) so you gotta be specially careful.
But as I said, I just beat it twice and I didn't get the achievement. So now what I will do is finish all the rest of the achievements including the "No death" one, and then I will erase save data and begin again for the NO MANA achievement.
I'm suspecting that if you push the button, it doesn't matter if you chose the 3 slots, it's "activated" and the only way is to erase your savedata and begin again.

I didn't have your issue unlocking the achievement. I had save slot 1 full of magic use, and save slot 2 as my no mana run. No issues. I also quit out mid-level many times, played in multiple sessions, on different days etc. No issues. The only important thing here is to not tap the magic button, and re-mapping your controller helps with that.

This is pretty self explanatory: play through the game from start to finish without ever using to cast spells. You can die any number of times in the process.
I am unsure if accidentally using a spell and then quitting to menu or restarting from the previous checkpoint will save you so be careful.

From what Ive read, reloading doesnt work if you hit the button. Gotta start over!
I just made it a habit to keep all fingers resting on the grip as my habit is resting my pointer on bumper/trigger area.

This trophy only applies to the use of the projectile mana attacks. You are still allowed to use the fire and ice magic on the blade, but not the projectile shot or the crouching mana blast, which is a real shame since that makes easy work of a lot of bosses including Vroll.
If you are worried about slipping and tapping R1, as many on other sites have pointed out, this game is very cloud save friendly, so back up after a checkpoint if you need to.
The trophy should pop after the final fight and during the next cutscene before the credits.
Tip for combination runs: If you are going for other boss specific trophies such as beating a boss hitless or very quickly, back up your save before fighting the boss and beat it quickly/hitless using magic as you like, then after thats popped, download the save and beat them again without magic and proceed. This makes the multitude of trophies that are at odds much easier to get efficiently. I would even argue some trophies are impossible without magic, such as the Vroll 3 minute fight trophy
